In the text on the top, there are a couple of errors ...

- Bonaparte is spelled incorrectly
- ... his Imperial Guard were challenged ...
- ... Dutch and Prussian Allies led by the ...

Also ... Gebhard von Blucher was the Prussian Field General in the Battle of Waterloo and should likely have a bonus named for him.

Good stuff!

Spelling errors have beenfixed, thanks for the editing.

I have given Bulow command to von Blucher as it was Ziethen and Bulow that arrived on the field first, thus their bonuses, and renamed B10 to Von Blucher.

I think this is a good compromise given that we can't put everything in totally.

I still think that Napolean and Wellington's bonus should be a territory bonus...

Also they should start neutral (say 4)...

And perhaps holding both of them is an objective? "Wellington captures Napolean"

PS - Cairns - your next battle map should be "Trafalgar"

Territory Naming - Which would you prefer?
    A: On map -> D01 (with artillery symbol on terit) / D'erlon 01 (in XML dropdown) - 57% - [ 11 ]
    B: On map -> DA1 (with artillery symbol on terit) / D'erlon Art. 01 DA1 (XML dropdown) - 42% - [ 8 ]
Total Votes : 19

Ah well lets see...

This is easily recognizeable as a Cairnswk map...filled to the edge with information! :)

I'll comment first on the graphics!
The overall look of this map...is very pleasing. It kind of reminds me of a 'commander strategy board' that was used before and during famous battles throughout history. I like it. :) Forgive the random order of my comments to come!

  • In the top legend, may be beneficial to bold "Artillery, Calvalry, Commanders" to make that stand out a little more...though if you are going for more of a uniform legend you can disregard. (Same goes for perhaps the description along the top).
  • In the 'Territory Naming' may be helpful to add blue and red behind the respective words to help it stand out, but that may be unecessary. Something to possibly consider.
  • If possible, try to find a soft color photo of Wellington, just so both photos are similar.
  • The line around the Wellington's bonus legend looks a little 'undone'...but I think it's more because of the lack of shadow like Napoleon's. Not sure what you can do here.
  • Regarding the PL and the CL territories, the font looks less bold than that of MJ. I like the bolder...and maybe even wouldn't mind seeing the territory names of all bolder, just for clarity sake.
  • Lastly for now, the unplayable grass...looks a little flat compared to the texture full other areas.

It's looking good, cairnswk! :)

Phew...that's good!

[*]In the top legend, may be beneficial to bold "Artillery, Calvalry, Commanders" to make that stand out a little more...

Done

[*]In the 'Territory Naming' may be helpful to add blue and red behind the respective words to help it stand out, but that may be unecessary. Something to possibly consider.

Placing coloured rectangles behind these words is too much and draws ones eyes towards them...the compromise is colouring the text.

[*]If possible, try to find a soft color photo of Wellington, just so both photos are similar.

Changed Napoleon's photo instead

[*]The line around the Wellington's bonus legend looks a little 'undone'...but I think it's more because of the lack of shadow like Napoleon's. Not sure what you can do here.

All these borders on names in legend are all uniform.

[*]Regarding the PL and the CL territories, the font looks less bold than that of MJ. I like the bolder...and maybe even wouldn't mind seeing the territory names of all bolder, just for clarity sake.

All these are uniform also

[*]Lastly for now, the unplayable grass...looks a little flat compared to the texture full other areas.

coloured the background with some grass and soil.

Version 15 below changes:

* added some houses etc to villages and finished the farms
* altered the bridge
* maximised the Bois de Paris
* increased the legend rectangles for villages and farms
* all hedges are now uniform
* darkened the prelude text at top of the map.

Looking nice.

A few points:

102 territories is a very good compromise between the argument I laid out and the desire to minimise neutrals... however...

I think that Naploean and Wellington should start neutral, which means adding a couple of territories somewhere (to the Imperial Guard in the bottom left?)

The artillery message is open to misunderstanding (including mine as of now): does "can bombard any enemy territory" refer to the Allies vs French enemy or the CC enemy - whichever way it needs to be clearer IMO.

I think the village and farm bonuses are way too low. For the villages you need to hold 6 territories with 6 borders spread across the map to get +3! - I think they should be +1 for 1, +4 for 2 and +7 for 3. The farms are a bit better, but +3 for 3 seems for appropriate.

I'm guessing the Van Blucher territory is reflecting something historical, but it seems out of place to me (I was looking for his specific bonus) - maybe just make it B10.

OK...but still thinking on that one and need feedback from others on this point.

Yes...i had thought about that but didn't do anything about it...probably will make it...."any opposing French or Allied territory on same side of Brussels Rd."

Good points but where to fit it all. Too many bonuses also seem to confuse everyone all the more so i'm reluctant to go down this road.

Von Blucher was put in there as request for someone...read previous page...and i made him the commander named there for the historic reason.

Sod 'em - they can read can't they?

and re Napolean / Wellington - I just think someone getting +2 or even +4 due to the luck of the drop is too unfair.

reading is not the problem....too much of any bonuses and it's too difficult for their brains to handle....as it is all my maps are out of their league cos they're complicated.....i'd be happy to do if you wanto be the 'fall-guy" LOL.

and re Napolean / Wellington - I just think someone getting +2 or even +4 due to the luck of the drop is too unfair.

excellent - please combine with 2 extra Imperial Guard territories (?) and make them neutral 4 to start as suggested by yeti_c.

A04 has a different army circle than the others

when you put the numbers on it all the teal ones seemed weird, there seems to be a white spot on top right of of the second 8

other than that this is looking better and better!

This is the territory count that i get at present....

Wellington 1

Uxbridge 6
Picton 11
Chasse 3
Alton 7
Burlow 10
Ziethen 6
Napoleon 1
Imp Guard 7
D'erlon 10
Reille 8
Lobau 7
Ney 6
Farms 5
Villages 6

Total 103

Anyone agree/disagree?
