You're not a hockey fan. You're simply a Habs fan. I shall no longer debate hockey with you. You don't care about the NHL - you care about the Montreal Canadiens. Sadly for you, they don't exist in a bubble; the Habs NEED the NHL in order for THEM to play games. There's a circular thought for you.

Big deal, same thing happens with the Red Wings when they go to Phoenix, Columbus, Nashville, Miami, Tampa, Atlanta, etc.

I think he's one of those Canadians because Americans took over the organization of the game.

That makes no sense. He is though a Habs fan that only cares about the Habs and not about hockey as a whole.

Missing three, actually.

Do you really believe that, or are you joking?

I think you are confusing "hockey fan" with "NHL fan". You can certainly follow only one team specifically and still be a hockey fan. A few of the biggest hockey fans I know rarely watch any NHL games (they prefer the OHL).

Serbia wrote:I shall no longer debate hockey with you.

You have got to be kidding. I know a bunch of NHL fans that know a lot about rosters and salaries and stats and trades and injuries and suspensions and so on, but they know very little about hockey. They could debate with me about NHL rosters and salaries and stats and trades and injuries and suspensions and so on and school me, but they could never properly debate with me about any aspect of playing the game - they have no deep knowledge or understanding about what is really happening on the ice.

I heard Crosby will sit out two games. What do you think, another 10 month vacation :o or will he be back sooner?
The Atlantic conference (or whatever they'll call it) will be super hard! Even though they'll only have 7 teams most of them are pretty good. Pittsburgh and Washington are the two best teams in the east. Philly is a definite playoff team. New Jersey is a strong team but somehow they haven't been good lately, they'll be back in the playoff picture soon though. Rangers usually makes the playoff. Carolina isn't the Carolina from 5 years ago but they are not a crappy team. Islanders? Let's just say their chances of making the playoffs in the next 10 years just shrunk from 5% to about 1% :).

From what I heard, it's absolutely nothing. They just pulled him as a precaution.

Yes, you are correct, he's not a fan of the NHL, only of Montreal. Nothing wrong with that, but it makes debating what's best for the league with him pointless, as he's not interested in that.

I'm not kidding at all. Although, again, I shall not debate the NHL with him, for reasons already stated.

I heard they were calling it a "stinger", and said it was not concussion related. Still, pulling him from two games automatically makes it sound more serious than perhaps it is.

what theProwler said is what i think, i like hockey and nhl, but i don't follow the other teams like i follow montreal, imagine me watching the stanley cup final with boston winning it after we were at 1 goal of beating them, just can't watch it ---- it hurts too much :(

So, really, you may be willing to debate "hockey" with him, just not "some NHL specific issues". I mean, "Has the crackdown on obstruction interference made the game more dangerous?" can be debated by a person who doesn't follow the NHL while "Will the NHL reverse or soften their stance on diligently calling all obstruction interference?" requires more in-depth knowledge of the marketing of the "NHL", while not so much knowledge of "hockey".

I feel the same way, only about the Maple Leafs. I watch Leafs games only. So I see some other NHL teams, but only when they play the Leafs. I watched some of the Stanley Cup finals last year, but really didn't give a hoot about what happened. Unless it's the Leafs playing, I feel very little emotion about any NHL game.

Meanwhile, I'm refereeing or lining two to seven games a week, so I see a fair amount of hockey. I do care a lot about those games because I try to have a positive (and hopefully unnoticed) impact on the game.

I hate, hate, hate the Leafs. Can't stand them. But I watch HNIC faithfully every Saturday night even though the Leafs are featured 80% of the time. I am a Sens fan, but I watch a game pretty much every night, regardless of who is playing. (If I go to the University hockey game on a Saturday night, I will PVR HNIC and watch it the next day) I even recently signed up for the TSN Jets package just so I have more games to watch. Between TSN, TSN2, the four Sportsnet feeds and HNIC, there is a game on almost every night. I'm at the rink 4-5 times a week as I have three kids playing, but still watch whatever game is on when I get home. During the payoffs I stay up and watch the late games on the West Coast...not going to bed until well after 2:00 am because of overtime. Doesn't matter if the Sens are out of it or not.

So you guys are saying that you can't watch other teams because their is to emotional attachment to the game? So watching other teams based on the entertainment value alone isn't enough for you? That is where Serbia is coming from.

i don't say that to be an ass ---- but i watch 3-4 games a week so that occupy 3-4 nights of mine a week, the girl don't like it so i have to be with her for the other 3-4 days in the week, plus the job etc .. don't have time to watch the other nhl teams anyway and it would not give me the same emotional entertainement ( my great grand-father was a montreal fan, my grand-father was and my father, brother, cousins, friends, etc...)

@ serbia = it's not that i don't like nhl, i just don't like the comissioner that is in charge of the nhl right now ( this is hockey, not fucking basketball ! ) ;)

I could watch other teams, but I get enough hockey from watching the Leafs and playing shinny and officiating. I have other interests that take time too...

will the nhl suspend malkin for his almost hit on giroux ? probably not since malkin is a superstar, and brendan gave 4 games for a hit knee to knee and 2 games for a hit to the head = good job nhl once again

Didn't see that hit, so can't comment. But the NHL is bad at not suspending it's "superstars". In the Senators game the other night, Neil got speared by Ovie and Neil got a diving penalty. Ovie nothing. Ovie said after the game he isn't the kind of player that spears people...but the video clearly shows he is.

yeah that one made me laugh, usually it's a 5 min penalty plus 10 min game misconduct, malkin did not hit giroux but he clearly tried to hit him to the head with his elbow, we'll see how it goes,

and yep montreal lost again, and our D.g. went to trade spacek ( who was finishing his contract in july ) to get Kaberle ( who did not scored a goal in 3 years and got a 3-years 4.5 mil contract ) next year there will be some change in montreal hopefully --- it's been since 1995 that our d.g. make us look like the laughing stock of the nhl ( except for 2009 )

I didn't watch the game and so the only replay of it that I've seen is in slow motion, but I don't think he should get any time if he didn't land it. Though, I'm a Pens fan so my opinion on this is worth shit.

Also, I highly doubt Shanahan would protect superstars. He's not that kind of person.

I'd really prefer to see it in real-time. From watching the slo-mo, I think it was an attempt to injure. Was there a penalty called on the play? I would guess unless they called unsportsman like, nothing really fits (unless they give him 2 for elbowing, though there wasn't any actual elbowing). But based on the replay here, I do think it should be worth a game's suspension. Ville Leino was just suspended for throwing an elbow (he wasn't penalized on the play), and I feel that just because Giroux was quick enough to jump out of the way is not enough reason to not suspend.
