Awesome, I've been looking forward to this one. How long between the beta announcement and it actually being up for play though? I'm trying to decide if I should go to bed or stay around long enough to bang out 5 speed wins in Cyprus

Sweet!
Re: Cyprus [GP,GR,X,Beta]
nice map but very unbalanced in 1vs1
the 3 bonus zone (kyrenia, paphos, limassol) with 3 territories
have to be coded as starting positions
here is my proposition

Re: Cyprus [GP,GR,X,Beta]
Are you saying that the 3 neutrals aren't enough? What exactly do you think is unbalanced?
Personally i'd like only to have neutral pelendria instead of limassol. In this way pahkna doesn't border only with neutrals.
I don't think that SP are necessary...

Re: Cyprus [GP,GR,X,Beta]
except for the 2 British territories which may stay neutral for historic reasons
neutrals are a bad solution
as you can have a very unbalanced distribution
with one player having only 1 neutral to conquer to get the bonus
and the opponent no troops near to counter-attack
on the contrary with the starting position solution
you have 2 territories to conquer
and if you fail your opponent will probably take it from you
plus you will have a more open gameplay removing blocking neutrals in this small map
now you may need neutrals for having the right number of territories at the start for 2 3 or 4 players games
but you have to find them elsewhere on the map

Re: Cyprus [GP,GR,X,Beta]
ok, so if I have correctly analyzed your proposal, with the 3 starting positions we should have these numbers:
[spoiler=boring numbers]
It seems a viable option...thanks pamoa
Ok, now i need to know if people want to go with starting positions or just move the starting neutral from limassol to pelendria.
[spoiler=boring numbers]
- 28 territ - 5 Starting neutrals (2 British Military Bases [Killer] + Larnaca + Nicosia + Famagusta)
- 2 players
players 8 terr (5drop+3SP) and 12 neutrals - 3 players
players 7 terr (4drop+3SP) and 7 neutrals - 4 players*
players 5 terr and 8 neutrals - 5 players*
players 4 terr and 8 neutrals - 6 players*
players 3 terr and 10 neutrals - 7 players*
players 3 terr and 7 neutrals - 8 players*
players 2 terr and 12 neutrals
3 starting positions (3x3)

Re: Cyprus [GP,GR,X,Beta] - Need a change?
i disagree about the balance... this is becoming one of my favorite maps.
Because of the duel neutrals returning to neutrals, it keeps the map perfectly balanced. I love it.

Re: Cyprus [GP,GR,X,Beta] - Need a change?
I think one of the starting neutral territories needs to not be neutral. I just started an 8-player game and we each get a whopping 2 territories, but, if one of those starting neutrals wasn't neutral, we should get 3 territories each.

It's a small map: don't play 8-player games on it.

I'm with Ender516 Some maps just shouldn't be played with 8 players

Re: Cyprus [GP,GR,X,Beta] - Need a change?
Well, it is a small map, which lends itself to games with few players. If every 3-region bonus zone has one neutral, then you may be okay, but starting positions prevent dropping a bonus which is a sizable advantage. They also prevent dropping most of a bonus, which can leave things somewhat unbalanced as well.

Re: Cyprus [GP,GR,X,Beta] - Need a change?
have you guys played this map?
It is almost sheer frigging genius...
I hope he doesnt change a thing.
Its balanced ... you can win from either end... and you CAN play quads on it. In quads the strategy just shifts, which the traditional noobie bonus whore will not like... In quads the strategy is all about moving your troops to eliminate a player. I LOVE this map.

Re: Cyprus [GP,GR,X,Beta] - Need a change?
Cool map! I'm playing it for the fist time, and I think the legend is either not clear or there is an xml mistake. The words "Nicosia belongs to both factions" to me sounds like holding ANY territory in Nicosia will count towards BOTH the Greek and Turkish bonus. I just spent a while trying to figure out why I wasn't getting 4 troops next turn, and finally realized that it might just mean territories above/below the buffer zone. Assuming this is the case, I think the wording needs to be changed. Sorry if this was already discussed, I have not been following this map from the beginning.
