ok I'll PM you zimmah. And yes, copyright would be necessary. The Herberts are very protective of their father's legacy. So we won't know for sure for a bit I'd guess.

the writer of the book is dead, so i don't think there are still copyright issues right?

how long has he/she been dead? i think that if the author has been dead for like 60 years then the copyright is no longer valid, but you would have to check around to see if im right

I don't think it has been that long. I'd guess 30 or 40 at most. And his children have continued writing the series using his transcripts which I'm sure has some sort of impact on it.

oh and does anyone know how to enlarge/shrink a photo without photoshop?

Well, I think an Easter Island Map is a good idea. This one seems kind of small to me. I think smaller than most demand. But could it work? Absolutely. The graphics need a lot of work which I think you realize.

You can resize photos using a lot of programs. Not sure what you have, but there are free programs for both mac and pc platforms as well as website that will do it for ya. Check out the map foundry tutorials section for information on various software and such.

no, just quench it and call it doodle island

yeah, that might be a good idea, but i could also crop, elarge and work on the graphics and that'ud be cool.... once i install my photshop i think the graphics would be handeld... or i could ask someone experienced. :)

Thansk MrBenn for the link...it seems the one thing holding everyone up is permission.

WHich is why I'd consider doing a Star Wars inspired map if you don't want to fight for permissions which could be difficult to get. At least consider it.

I have an interesting idea for a map but I'm not sure it's really viable. The idea is a United States electoral college map. You start out with a basic map of the 48/50 states, colored red/blue according to the popular red/blue state coloring convention and you also include the maojor timezone lines.

There would be no territory bonus but each state would get an in place bonus based on the number of votes they get in the college. The votes go from 3 - 55 so I'm thinking of using the (votes /3) -1 as a guide. States can attack adjacent states and bombard states of their own color in the adjacent western time zone. (Because their polls close later, polls in the western states can be influenced by results from the eastern states.)

Would this work or would it be dull? You might want to adjust the red/blue states in order to make things viable for time zone bombardment. In addition if only the eastern states were available at the start and the other time zone start our as neutral (with their starting values based on (votes / 3)).

Could you have a victory condition where you get the majority of the states based on their bonus point weighting? That might encourage micration from east to west in all types of games.

Not sure if this idea has been tossed out there yet or if The Great Lakes map already covors it but. how about a map of the War of 1812-1814? Has anyone here ever played this game by Columbia Games (Gametime Games? ) I think this fits in with the general Nepoleonic era that the unmentionable game was based on.

Just a thought.

Thank you all for your time and attention.

Has anyone come up with a food web idea yet? If not, I'd like to give it a shot. [at least for a week or so untill I get fed up with my experience -or, more accurately, lack thereof- with graphics software and put an axe through my computer]

I seem to remember a sort of mall/shopping center idea from a while back. Search for that and you may get some ideas.

i'd like to see a classic style map or something with like 96+ territories. so we can also have a bigger map instead of 11 small classic maps(36 or less territories) (might be even more but right now i see about 11 small maps in the foundry being created)

maybe some diff. gameplay but it's not neccesery.

is there any mapmaker that can make a nice 8 player map? O:) please? :D

would love to see a dune map, anyone interested in making one?

Actually I might be interested. Maybe if I teamed up with someone else.

i am really bad at photoshop and such, but i can do the XML and i can also give some tips about gameplay and such, i read the Dune Series so i pretty much now some things about this fictional planet

I am very happy to help with gameplay and to bounce ideas off too, i think that is what Zimm offers too?

hehe so you need someone with more than just time and 'ideas'

but like i say i will support all i can

Periodic madness will have 118 territories in it, is that enough for you?

it's in the main foundry right now

I know they made a board version of this- so you could base it off this:

Lord of the Rings
I really want to play on this because I can't get the board, I would still have no one to play with, and I am a master of Tolkien lore.
Maybe a Beleriand addition or different board with Arda on it, and those in Arda can come to Middle-Earth, but not going in the other direction.
