You didn't do any math. You appear to have picked a few numbers out of the air.

I did. Before every figure I used things like "Let's say" and "Assuming."

If you want I can reformulate using actual numbers.

EDIT: Damn, do you know where I can find these numbers? So far I'm coming up empty.

EDITEDIT: Ok, i've got two links for you.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rare_Earth_hypothesis
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Principle_of_mediocrity

These are the two big theories as to the likelihood of life on other planets in this galaxy.

Now, if we take both theories at face value, we can assume that, while the possibility of life in this galaxy is slim, the possibility of life in the universe is much larger simply because of A) the number of galaxies in the universe (estimated at about 125 billion) and B) The fact that we're here and the conditions for life that exist here may exist in one or more of these 125 billion galaxies.

That's how I have faith in alien life.

If we are going to debate evolution, why not ask how meaningless organs and the like evolved?

OH NO! Vestigals again! ARGH!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vestigal_organs

Some examples of vestigal organs:

The vermiform appendix is a vestige of the cecum, an organ that was used to digest cellulose by humans' herbivorous ancestors. Analogous organs in other animals similar to humans continue to perform that function, whereas other meat-eating animals may have similarly diminished appendices. The modern functionality of the appendix is still controversial in the field of human physiology, although most scientists and physicians believe that it has little or no function.

(However, it is a part of the lymphatic system. The 'little to no function' comes from the fact that we can lose our appendices with little to no ill effect.)

The coccyx, or tailbone, is the remnant of a lost tail. All mammals have a tail at one point in their development; in humans, it is present for a short time during embryonic development. The tailbone, located at the end of the spine, has lost its original function in assisting balance and mobility, though it still serves some secondary functions, such as being an attachment point for muscles, which explains why it has not degraded further. In rare cases it can persist after birth and must be surgically removed.

The plica semilunaris is small fold of tissue on the inside corner of the eye. It is the vestigial remnant of the nictitating membrane (the "third eyelid") which is present in other animals.

I knew I should have put "and I don't mean the appendix"...

I kind of meant those in other species, the truly meaningless ones.. just have to find those examples .. now where did I put them??

Why debate evolution, if the one man (EDIT:) who is arguing about it, jay, appears to have bannished/band himself? Was there some finer point you wanted to debate? If so, why do you think Conquer Club is the best place to do so?

Now personally i dont believe in "god" because as far as im concerned the bible. corran, and any other holy book could be a fictional book. Now im not saying your religion isn't true its just that i dont believe in it or any others.

Also there are aliens out there.Do you know why?Do you have proof? No because there thier and they think thier the only life in the universe.Hey who knows how technoligliy advanced they are. They might be equal or behind us.Thier could be Millions upon millions of planets just beyond Pluto and every one of those could have Billions of inhabidints. Now most likely one reason why some of the more advanced races havn't contacted us is because they think theyll come for peace and well blow them up.Or maybe some are trying to learnd about or customs and traditons.

Now if you think keeping your borders safe say in "Iraq" then try to beat back a worldwide invasion. Also anybody who agrees or disagrees with me, guess what.I DONT CARE.Do you really think that this Thread or this post or even this website will matter in three thousand years?NO because it wont. Now stop talking on this thread and get a job, a spouse, and a happy family so your family line can actualy make in three thousand years.

P.S. ha ha ha you know im right but you cant admit can you.HA

I have two questions for you.

1) How old are you?

2) Have you ever used narcotics?

12 and no

Why :?:

As noted in one of your links, all of our attempts to find evidence of ETs have come up empty. Despite this, you maintain faith in their existence. Is this not similar to jay's experience? He looks at the universe and "sees" overwhelming evidence that there is a god; you look at it and are convinced there is alien life. The difference is only in your interpretation of inconclusive data.

oh my sweet grapefruit.
IM MENTALLY INSANE and this thread is driving me nuts.

Do any of you have any proof of god or aliens?

If you dont then stop talking and get a life(except for Backglass)

If you do then please keep talking and ignore this post.

Similar, but not exact. You see, in a universe of this size nothing is impossible. Once again, I must repeat that I am not an atheist, I do believe in the possibility that some godform or being advanced enough to be considered a god exists. I do not believe, however, in books and institutions that purport themselves to be The Ultimate Truth(tm)(c).

I'm convinced of alien life simply because of the scale involved. We've got a universe bigger than anyone can conceive, and yet we're the only life? I just happen to hold the opinion that not only is that extremely farfetched, it is also quite egotistical. Whatever force brought us into existence-- whether it be evolutionary, godly, or alien-ly-- must exist elsewhere in the universe.

I quote Douglas Adams: "In a universe this size anything, even the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, is possible."

WHY has no one seen god?
Because he doesn't exist

If there is a god then let him smite me where i stand.

(thank you back glass but seriously 93% of people i know think im mentally unstable.7% are trying to get me commited)

A horse has four legs
No horse has five legs
A horse has four more legs than no horse
Therefore, horses have nine legs.

There, proved it.
