These are the two big theories as to the likelihood of life on other planets in this galaxy.

Now, if we take both theories at face value, we can assume that, while the possibility of life in this galaxy is slim, the possibility of life in the universe is much larger simply because of A) the number of galaxies in the universe (estimated at about 125 billion) and B) The fact that we're here and the conditions for life that exist here may exist in one or more of these 125 billion galaxies.

That's how I have faith in alien life.

If we are going to debate evolution, why not ask how meaningless organs and the like evolved?

I knew I should have put "and I don't mean the appendix"...

I kind of meant those in other species, the truly meaningless ones.. just have to find those examples .. now where did I put them??

As noted in one of your links, all of our attempts to find evidence of ETs have come up empty. Despite this, you maintain faith in their existence. Is this not similar to jay's experience? He looks at the universe and "sees" overwhelming evidence that there is a god; you look at it and are convinced there is alien life. The difference is only in your interpretation of inconclusive data.

Similar, but not exact. You see, in a universe of this size nothing is impossible. Once again, I must repeat that I am not an atheist, I do believe in the possibility that some godform or being advanced enough to be considered a god exists. I do not believe, however, in books and institutions that purport themselves to be The Ultimate Truth(tm)(c).

I'm convinced of alien life simply because of the scale involved. We've got a universe bigger than anyone can conceive, and yet we're the only life? I just happen to hold the opinion that not only is that extremely farfetched, it is also quite egotistical. Whatever force brought us into existence-- whether it be evolutionary, godly, or alien-ly-- must exist elsewhere in the universe.
