I had hoped I'd killed it by taking it into a new, even more bizarre direction, by guessing what effect the discovery of extra-terrestrial intelligence would have on religion, but you've kept it going! And I have now, too.

Stopper wrote:Yep. You know, on the face of it, if extraterrestrial intelligence were ever to be discovered, Christianity (and of course, other religions) would come under severe pressure. You see, the chances are, ET probably wouldn't resemble humans, so there'd be a bit of a problem with that "humans being created in the image of God" thing.

Plus, presumably, Jesus would have to get himself crucified on every planet that had intelligent beings. I don't know, I'm not an omnipotent being, but I reckon after the first time, I just couldn't face it a second time.

I don't think there'd be pressure, just another excuse for mankind to be racist "Well Jesus saved us, not you aliens!"

I think the most likely situation is that some would be cool with it, others would tolerate it, and the rest would form hate groups and fight against it. Kinda like Alien Nation.

Prove it! Prove that there are no aliens!

You can't prove that there are no other races of life on other planets so that must mean that they exist.

We have faith that aliens exist because we've got these statistics that show that since the universe, being the size it is, that it is completely possible that the conditions on our world that allow life to begin may exist on another planet.

Now do you see how hard it is for atheists to be convinced by that argument?

Guys, It doesnt work both ways for jay. His irrational arguments are perfectly valid because his are true. Your irrational arguments are invalid, because they are not true. Understand?

Here's one for everybody:

What if the entity you believe is a god....is just an alien with superior powers? And there is a whole WORLD of these "gods" somewhere?

hello all
Now personally i dont believe in "god" because as far as im concerned the bible. corran, and any other holy book could be a fictional book. Now im not saying your religion isn't true its just that i dont believe in it or any others.

Also there are aliens out there.Do you know why?Do you have proof? No because there thier and they think thier the only life in the universe.Hey who knows how technoligliy advanced they are. They might be equal or behind us.Thier could be Millions upon millions of planets just beyond Pluto and every one of those could have Billions of inhabidints. Now most likely one reason why some of the more advanced races havn't contacted us is because they think theyll come for peace and well blow them up.Or maybe some are trying to learnd about or customs and traditons.

Now if you think keeping your borders safe say in "Iraq" then try to beat back a worldwide invasion. Also anybody who agrees or disagrees with me, guess what.I DONT CARE.Do you really think that this Thread or this post or even this website will matter in three thousand years?NO because it wont. Now stop talking on this thread and get a job, a spouse, and a happy family so your family line can actualy make in three thousand years.

P.S. ha ha ha you know im right but you cant admit can you.HA

Thats called being an Athiest. Congratulations!

pikmin wrote:Do you really think that this Thread or this post or even this website will matter in three thousand years?

No, because by then those who need a "life crutch" will have moved on to god 2.0. A much better, bigger god with usb & THX sound.

Got one thanks!

I have two questions for you.

1) How old are you?

2) Have you ever used narcotics?

The galaxy contains about 100 billion stars. The Universe contains somewhere around 100 billion galaxies.

Now the probability of our world being perfect for life to evolve/be created is let's say, .1%. That would be to say that .1 of every one hundred, or one in every thousand planets may or may not have life or the capability to support life.

Now, we have (100 billion)^2 number of stars in the universe, and (using our solar system as a model) 10 planets orbiting each. 1 out of every thousand might support life.

The odds are in the favor of alien life.

I remember doing this a few yeras ago in bio, its about 1 in 10^10 or so i seem to recall that life will occur n a planet, and we ahve about 10^20soemthign planets so thats a HUGE amount in favor of life on another palnet. However its VERY unlikely that any of the speiceis on any of the other planets woudl even remotely resemble any form of life on this planet (with the exception of preons and very very basic viruses, if you consider them life, but that's a whoel other pandora's box). Its not even likely that they would be intelligent, or even conscious. Its only by chance that we have an animal kindgom, with a few genuses that are capable of somewhat higher brain funcitons (birds mammals, and arguably reptiles are geniouses comapred to most other life), and its really only chance that about 3 or 4 mammal species can use tools, and again only one of those is capable of abstract thought and ahs the capacity to leave the earth. If another specie on another planet achieced this level of brain function, and transmitted some form of communication it wouldn't be very likely that it woudl be in this galaxy, or even a nearby galaxy which would mean it would take trillions, or more years at the least for us to get any hints that it even exists.

Well it the premis that man evolved from ape and ape evolved from monkey and so on until you get to 1st life and its orgin. Also that speech is a learned behavior, so who taught the apes to speak? and most of this was already discussed throughout the pages of this thread.

The same way he explains everything - by making wrong-headed and meaningless statements backed up by nothing other than the fact that he's typed them and repeatedly shot down by people who know what they are talking about.

I'm pretty sure 'life cannot come from non-life' is involved somehow.

A vague understanding of terms like science, evolution, proof would serve you well jay.

oh dear god.

man did not evolve from ape, nor did ape evolve from monkey. These species share common ancestors - much more recently in than in the case of apes and man than man and monkey - but they didn't evolve from one another. We are not descended from apes but from a different species entirely.

And jay i think the language thing has been explained over and over again in this thread. yet you still parrot this idea that because something has to be learned, it is proof of god's existence. Which means that tennis, potty training and evolutionary theory itself are also proof that god exists.

I just want you to grunt in recognition, or refute these arguments in some way, because they have been made over and over again and still you trot out the guff i have quoted without any response to the arguments against. Do you have any?

if there r aliens, they r prolly just something like microscopic organisms like wut was found on mars. Or there could have been aliens like us a long time ago but their sun turned in2 a black hole & they got sucked in
