IT is Midgard now, which is much better graphically IMO. There were copyright issues, so they needed to change it. It still has the same gameplay.

Midgard is way better graphically. And you don't want CC to get sued do you?
The problem was that hasbro has the rights to the Middle earth risk map, and that tolken isn't going to just give us the rights to use his world for free.

Midgard translates from Old English as Middle Earth
There are a couple of nods to the tales of Middle Earth on the map too.
As for the mods being "bothered about copyright", this issue (and the abolition of Classic) was nothing to do with any mods, it was a decision taken by the website manager and owner. He is the Dark Lord to whom we are all subservient!

Right, and furthermore it's not wise to start breaking copyrights... conquer club is now big enough to be noticed by the big corporations (like Hasbro), so if they think CC is breaking copyright they'll be down on us like a hammer and close the whole site down with their big bucks and fancy lawyers.
You don't want that happening, do you?

I am not sure of the details but I bet that an alternative lord of the rings map can be created as long as it doesn't breach the copyright of the nasbro middle earh map. But you would probably have to get permission from lackattack himself for such an idea to be considered.
Actually, it probably is under copyright. Tolkien died in 1973, and the death + 70 year means the copyright goes on until 2043. Looks like the Tolkien trust owns the copyright:

There was actually a very nice Middle Earth map a long time ago. Unfortunately it had to be removed following some copyright disputes. Its gameplay is now used by the Midgard map (you might spot some familiar names in that map also). Also, I'm moving this over for the map foundry folks to sort out.

There is a map in its final stages called "The Dawn of Ages" which tackles Tolkien's stories and middle earth quite well, better than Hasbro did, imo. Check it out:
viewtopic.php?f=64&t=92583There is also Midgard, based on the Hasbro Middle Earth map.

Hi,
Few weeks ago, I checked all maps and I realized there are so few maps about Tolkien universe.
Maybe it's a problem of copyright but except midgard, there is no other map.
I thought to bring Middle earth maps to Conquer Club.
I made some research and I'm now capable of showing you a first drop of what map could be.
If that works, I'd like to add also some smaller maps from middle earth with proper battles.
This is the first drop.

Let me know what you think about.
I'll explain the gameplay if people like it.

I would love a middle-earth related map (if as you say it could be allowed from a copyright point of view). Have you read Silmarillion? The map there (The land west of the blue mountains) Should make for a brilliant map, especially in the hands of someone who knows the storyline of the Noldor and the happenings of the first age and the war(s) against Morgoth.

There's the small matter of copyright.

I sure as hell would love just about any Tolkien map. Actually
just finished reading Silmarillion for the umptieth time. By far the best work, I highly recommend it. I hear they're gonna make a movie out of it. Prepare to get disappointed.
@Natty: The map you have there is not IP?

Instruction pointer?
Internet protocol?
Instant pudding?

The point is, if you're going to make a tolkien map, you can't use any of the names (places or anything else) from the original. No copyright infringements.
Then, we already have Midgard and Dawn of Ages, so your map will have to be different from them.
So, keeping these two requirements in mind, I'm looking forward to a draft.

IP = Intellectual Property ~ copyright
I'm nearly sure you can use the names at the very least. Plenty of other games and publications are using the term 'Ork', for example.
Many owners of IP allow the use of maps, pictures and such for works by fans. You can't hold me to it, but I think examples are Wheel of Fortune, Lego and Star Wars. I do believe that one stipulation is that you can't make money from it, so I guess that's a problem.
You might try writing the Tolkien Foundation and ask permission. At worst, you'll be ignored.

Copyright law. Now if you want to make a map about, say, Middle Earth, you can do it, but you have to change all of the names, plus the name of the map itself, because otherwise it's a copyright infringement. We don't take chances with this stuff, CC does not need lawsuits.
If you want to try getting permission from the Tolkiens, well, good luck with that...

Guys, calm down!!!
So I used first map and modify it.
Game play will be like wales were only region (hexagons) can attack subregion (circle).Green hexagons and circles work the same but are part of a bonus. Maybe I'll set also a different colour for the SHIRE and neibourghood.
Grey are mountain passes and
blue are water passes. They start neutral and with a big amount of troops.
Black are Mordor, they start neutral with a big big amount of troops. Aim of the game is to hold GORGOROTH and MOUNT DOO
3 circles to reach mordor are also neutral They are different passes to mordor. No need to pass all of them to reach MordorYellow are elves places, neutral like 10 troops and once conquered, autodeploy of 4 or 5 each turn. There will be bonuses in holding some north tower (10) or some south towers (4)
Region + 1 subregion = + 2 bonus
Region + 2 subregion = + 3 bonus
Region + 3 subregion = + 4 bonus
Every player start with 3 territories (only hegagons).

And about the name, we have to check if they're copyright or not.
If they are, I don't think I'll put some more time on that map.
Be fair, it's my first try on that map and also as a MapMaker.

What natty is trying to say here guy's is that the midgard map being used here was originally middle earth.
CC was then forced to change all the names and the look to avoid copyright infringement. So this topic has
already been discussed. Do a little more digging and find the threads on it. I also believe they had a compitition
to find the best one.

Yes but do you mean that because there is already one map, we can't try to make another one?

And yes I looked into forum before posting and starting working on it... Like always.*
Do alittle more reading and find the words on it...

Thank you for your post anyway.
