3 numbers fit...

no they don't...3 digits aren't centered...the third digit just comes at the right side...so If you want it to fit you ll have to move your 2digits to the left which will be ugly...

they will fit if you think about it where spin put the numbers dont mean thats where they will be going
be using the area where there are no numbers for the army numbers has in the other crossword and using the tab idea it will give more room where needed we could also make a few smaller boxes that little bit wider in places or even run a tab in to the black area to take the army numbers but its still early days yet lots more work to do on it yet so keep ideas coming in

if you're talking about this answer:
WL_southerner wrote:they will fit if you think about it where spin put the numbers dont mean thats where they will be going
be using the area where there are no numbers for the army numbers has in the other crossword and using the tab idea it will give more room where needed we could also make a few smaller boxes that little bit wider in places or even run a tab in to the black area to take the army numbers but its still early days yet lots more work to do on it yet so keep ideas coming in
then i'm sorry but i didn't understand much of it.
let's analyze:
WL_southerner wrote:they will fit if you think about it where spin put the numbers dont mean thats where they will be going
so you say they will fit if the numbers are put by spin, but then you say that that's not going to be the place for the numbers. completely lost me.
WL_southerner wrote:be using the area where there are no numbers for the army numbers has in the other crossword and using the tab idea it will give more room where needed we could also make a few smaller boxes that little bit wider in places or even run a tab in to the black area to take the army numbers
this one is really hard to comprehend. so tabs will allow more space and you'll have small boxes and wider boxes and tabs that run in the dark space. i'm trying to imagine this and it looks awful. all squares should be the same size. nothing wider or smaller. same size.
WL_southerner wrote:but its still early days yet lots more work to do on it yet so keep ideas coming in
this was the easiest part to understand. you need more ideas since there's a lot of work.
so far i haven't seen too much work. i gave ideas and none was put in practice. why do you need more ideas if you don't bother using the ones you received?

dim let me do this in baby step for you
step 1 if you look along the top row it contains 5 little boxes that make up up that line if you look closely there are 2 boxes that do not have other numbers in them the 3 figure army numbers can go in to one of them there for the middle of the 3 figure army number can be center then
step 2 the idea of the tabs was to help it make it more user friendly and doing so it will give more usable space to allow if needed for the edge of the army to lap into
step 3 where needed the black space can be use more so for the down lines or maybe we can run the army number down ward which might it user friendly ummm some thing to think about and try it see what it looks like

yep but the problem is that 3 digit army numbers don't center around the middle number. only the first 2 are centered. just as gnome said.

this is good.

if you go in black space it will look bad.

well by agreeing with second step you have agree on the first step
step 3 i dont think it would look bad no more than the maps that use the sea or mountains boarders to give them that little bit more room
i all so said about running the 3 figure army numbers down wards witch it might make it more user friendly that is some thing to look at and see what it looks like
for every problem there an answer it just a case to find the answer that all

not really, you see, you have a perfect shape here. a square. either way you look at it it's the same. a nice little square that has it's own harmony.
now if you go and overlap armies on it then it will spoil that harmony. on other maps if the numbers flow outside and overlap a border the harmony is not really spoiled since you don't deal with perfect shapes but rather with curvy lines that are random.
but the most curious thing is that you say:
"running the 3 figure army numbers down wards"
what do you mean by this?
you want the army numbers to be shown like this:
8
8
8
instead of
888
???

sorry to say this but putting numbers downwards is impossible.
you set the coords and the numbers are put automatically with the 2 digits centered on the coord you set and then all the digits are put on the right.

how many times you come in a game with 3 digits...not that often...
Show us a map with only 2 digits that are pulled against the side of the square...I'm not sure if it will look good...also I don't like the bonus of the inner continent...it's only worth 8th like the little ones while it's more than 10 territories bigger...

spin...why are the grey colours taking up half of the some of the centre squares...what is the meaning of this?

im guessing that those territories are part of both the gray area and their respective color, much like 8 thoughts.
i dont kno for sure tho.

no offence mate. it's logical to get opinions from all. but it seems i'm mainly the one giving feedback around here.
anyway. the numbers don't look good like you put them because you'll rarely have 3 digits and in most cases the armies will look really off-centered. so you need to put 2 digit armies in each box and make them centered. then calculate that you have enough space to the right of those 2 digits to fit a 3rd one. this way everything will look fine. but as i said before you need to increase the box size for this to work. make the map 15*15 rows make the squares bigger and you'll have space for legend and artwork and everything. because at this point you don't have space neither for 3 digits nor for the legend and artwork.
also about the color poll you need to contact a mod to remove this one in order to put a new one.
i vote grayscale but i'd like the options to look like this:
What colour scheme do you prefer?'
'1. Bright Colours'
'2. Grayscale/Monochromatic'
'3. Inner glow'
'4. Texture Pattern'
so add monochromatic besides grayscale because you can also do coloring like in middle east map or berlin map which is not gray scale and still looks great. or like in the example i presented in the thread.
also break inner glow and pattern into 2 different options since they are 2 totally different things.
and btw when you put up polls like that you must also present the map with those options.
so make 4 versions of the map when you put the poll and include in the question something like : (see images page 13)
this way people will know what exactly they are voting for.

the idea of the inner area like it is
is to make it that little bit harder to to have total controll
the inner area has the same amout has the outter territories but has more fronteers in the corner it has only 4 while middle edges have 6 and the center area has 8
