That's off the top of my head, I'll find some more.......
Makes an interesting sound. What's cool is if you try it on a 6-string fretless bass with some chorus & flange (guitar players know this) and it sounds great.

DJ Shadow, and Cut Chemist...that's what I like in techno...but mostly DJ Shadow...

Believe me its not, even in America. Techno is a very specific type of dance music oiginating for the most part in Detroit. Some particular examples you may have heard are Orbital or Underworld (and if you haven't head them you should, especially Orbital who are legendary in the scene). Kraftwerk were also instrumental in bringing Techno to a wider audience. Usually between 130-140BPM with prominent '4 to the floor' kicks and particular attention paid to bass and synth lines. Very few samples in Techno.

DJ Shadow produces instrumental hip-hop and is a turntablist. Techno is very very different.

and since you know so much about the subject, I absolutely hate mainstream american "techno"...that crap like DJ Caffeine and the like if you've heard of him...can you clarify for me that they too are not "true techno"?

Most, if not all, Techno involves turntables when playing it in a club, but the music is made with drum machines and synths (basically).

I don't know the DJ you mention, but Americans seem to lump together all electronic music (real Techno, all the various varieties of House, Breakbeat, Drum n Bass, Electro, Trance etc. etc.) as Techno when in reality Techno is a very specific, pretty minimalist, style as I descried earlier. What Americans usually call Techno is just anything which falls into the category of Electronica or dance music. Or even just everything they don't have a specific media label for (i.e. not pop, rock etc.) If you want to listen to proper Techno I'd recommend Orbital for a start.

DJ shadow is very very much Hip-Hop though. His earlier stuff is pure sample-driven instrumental hip-hop, but more recently he's moved into the San Fran Hyphy scene (rather controversially) and started doing some pretty different stuff. Not Techno though... Techno is electronic dance music.

You can take a "true" musician and he can produce the same thing with little effort. Give a guitar, piano, drum kit, or bass to a "scratcher" and he'll be lost.

Not the place for this argument, but I'd just like to point out that certainly 4/4 time signatures are a big part of both types of music, especially the popular elements... But just as in Rock, when you listen to more artists, more underground perhaps or lesser known, there is plenty of experimentation. ESPECIALLY in electronic music, more than any other genre. It encompasses so many and so varied musical elements, every time signature, every tempo... It certainly can be said for rap and techno, but you don't listen to rap and techno music so you wouldn't have heard the bands that do. 'Electronic music' as a whole is perhaps the most extremely diverse type of music in the world in terms of variety. You just haven't experienced it.

Anyway, its not worth pointing out musical merits here. I've done it in countless other threads.
