Speaking to The Jerusalem Post following the Knesset discussion, Feldman said the doctors penned a letter last week to the World Medical Association seeking to expel the Israeli Medical Association, claiming that Israeli doctors carried out “medical torture” on Palestinian patients.

Asked what the result of such a boycott might be, Feldman said it would have a “domino effect and radiate to all other scientific associations.

“A boycott of the Israeli Medical Association would prevent Israelis from participating in medical conferences [and] publishing papers in journals, would halt funding of research and joint research endeavors, and prevent membership in other medical associations,” he explained.

While Feldman said the Israeli Medical Association has been successful in countering past calls for boycotts, he fears a time may come when those opposing Israel will succeed.

“If there will be many hammer hits, eventually the wall will give in,” he said.

The pension fund for the United Methodist Church has blocked five Israeli banks from its investment portfolio in what it describes as a broad review meant to weed out companies that profit from abuse of human rights. The pension board identified Israel and the Palestinian territories among more than a dozen "high risk" countries or regions with "a prolonged and systematic pattern of human rights abuses." Other countries on the list include Saudi Arabia, the Central African Republic and North Korea.

The Methodist church has about 13 million members worldwide and is the largest mainline Protestant group in the United States. Last year, the United Church of Christ voted to divest from companies with business in the Israeli-occupied territories. The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) took a similar vote in 2014.

Oh, of course it will happen. That's not in doubt. The only thing being debated is when and how. Will it be 5 years from now in a rain of artillery shells? Or 10 years from now in fiscal bankruptcy resulting from the worsening boycotts and dwindling U.S. welfare payments? Or 20 years from now when the demographics have completed their shift to an Arab majority? Whatever way, the intellectual consensus is that Israel will not last. Israel has to win every single battle. We only have to win once.

This isn't a battle to destroy Israel, that ship has sailed. This is a battle to expedite the process.

Human Rights Watch said businesses should stop operating in West Bank Jewish settlements. In a 162-page report released Tuesday titled “Occupation, Inc.: How Settlement Businesses Contribute to Israel’s Violations of Palestinian Rights,” the human rights group concluded that companies that finance, service or trade with Jewish settlements facilitate the growth of the settlements and violate the rights of Palestinians.

“Settlement businesses help entrench discriminatory Israeli policies that favor settlers over Palestinians in Area C (under Israeli civilian and military control), even though the settlers should not be there in the first place,” said Arvind Ganesan, director of the business and human rights division at Human Rights Watch.

More than half a million Jewish settlers live in 237 settlements throughout the West Bank, including eastern Jerusalem, according to the report.

An unrelenting wave of Palestinian violence has Israeli leaders at each other’s throats — and it’s going to get even uglier.

After nearly five months of continuous violence, Israel finally seems to have lost its nerve.

Although Israelis have encountered far more serious periods of conflict with Palestinians in the past, the current era of stabbings and vehicle attacks has thrown them off balance. Even in the most horrific times of the Second Intifada, when suicide bombers blew themselves up twice a week on the streets of Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, a very Jewish version of the “stiff upper lip” persisted — everyday life continued apace, with businesses and schools remaining open.

This time, however, things have evolved differently. While the number of casualties remains significantly lower than the comparable period in the beginning of the Second Intifada in 2000 — 174 Palestinians and 31 Israelis have died so far, about 60 percent of the numbers last time — the Israeli reaction seems far more frantic and confused.
