Re: Axis and Allies browser-based online game
Woodruff; I understand how you feel. many of us have done a major attack, then had it stopped by a surprise attack from a player who we had helped before. however, every player is responsible to defend themselves. you said it was a factory space; that means within a single turn you could create several troops for defense and simply leave them there.
there is some truth to your point; esp. if there seemed to be a deal, and also if you'd been doing most of the fighting so far, and if john's survival and level in the game was really a result of your efforts up to that point. however, there is some validity to john having moved his units forward on the attack, then offering a truce to prevent further conflict in that zone. remember, all arrangements are pretty subjective here.
Forces games are much more fluid than Risk. unlike Risk, player are not constrained from moving units wherever they may wish; unlike Risk, your units do not have to stay in one place until there is something for them to do. You can move all your units to one side of the map, leave spaces totally undefended, and move them back and forth continually. so players' arrangements may really change unexpectedly.
I just won a world game after having missed a turn a while back, and then losing about 10% of my spaces. the reason was that the brown player and grey player both tried to attack me, then brown turned around and invaded gray in Africa. suddenly I had Asia to myself again. so things do change pretty swiftly here. hope that helps in some small degree. thanks!

That forum really does suck. <chuckle>

I think what he's trying to say is that when you spend 15 turns organizing a defense against three enemies and five different kinds of different attacks, you tend to feel a little more involved.
Re: Axis and Allies browser-based online game
hey, I just realized what that site really needs...the ability to CHOOSE what team you're on, in other words who else you're on a team with. kind of important in team games.

I actually like that it's random, myself. A lot.

Re: Axis and Allies browser-based online game
Somebody created a 5 player team game, which I found to be kind of funny.

Well...the original Axis and Allies game is a 5-player team game...
But I do see what you mean - seems rather unfair if not balanced out.

Some of the best laid plans go wonky when a smaller fleet
demolishes your painfully built armada.
Although it really pisses me off when two empty transports
come under attack by two carriers with four fighters and
somehow one of them survives.

I really like it when a jet attacks 1 or 2 transports, and dies along with the transport. It had sufficient fuel, but maybe I accidently built a kamikazi sqaudron...
Or when the that lone INF brings down my supersonic jets...

I've had that insane lunatic infantry dude standing naked out in the middle of a bridge taking a leak in the river --with his special purpose in one hand and a pistol in the other-- when my fighter jet comes zipping along and lights him up...
only to get shot down in the process of wasting him.
Hey Ballin' did you notice a couple of turns snuck past while you were snoozin' at your post?

My impression has been that overall, often units make their defense rolls more often than you might think. Yes, i know transports are at sea, so they have a single attack rating. my point is that whatever percent the unit may have to hit, it happens more frequently than one might guess...even for weaker units. so the answer is to adopt a tactic used in Risk, where all units are equal; that is to assume that defenders can take some units out of your attacking force, so plan your attacks to occur so that there is some kind of attacking numerical strength. it's not always necessary to do that in Forces, but it does seem to be relevant.

Recently lost 10 infantry defending a territory while the "other player" lost 2 tanks. And I thought the odds here at CC were bad.....

hmmm. what did the attacker have? mainly tanks, or a mixture? did he have air support? just curious.
don't forget to use fighters to build up your defense; they have 65% defense rating.

oh. well that's why the game has fighters as an option; they are much better at taking out some of the opposing force. keep them in a space with lots of infantry; they can last a few turns, taking units out of every attack against your space.

10 Troops is supposed to kill 3 enemies and 15 Tanks is supposed to kill 7.5 enemies. So your result doesn't sound that far off tbh...

hmmm. depends on total units on each side, as well.
