Oh, I suppose I'll come back to this one day.

And by the way, Poocho - don't get discouraged by the next few books (they're not quite as good as the first 6) - because book 11 is fucking amazing.

and here is another view of a good map

hope these help.

The second map is the one I'm familiar with from the books I've read so far (1-6). I've been thinking as I started reading them this year how great a WoT map would be on CC. I hope this idea gets picked up again. While I have no map-making skills whatsoever, I think I'd be more than willing to help conceptualize it.

Just my thoughts,
Poocho :)

I'm a HUGE fan of WoT. I was just searching to see if a WoT map was in the works. I would love to play this map (and any other from "Randland"). Keep it going! I wish I had the skill and/or time to work on something like this.

I was thinking about what cool feature a WoT map would have that would be sort of unique and thought about incorporating the Ways into the map - or at least the Waygates. Make it so that you could instantly attack, say Tar Valon from Caemlyn using the ways, but to do so you have to commit a certain portion to go "through" without coming back and you automatically lose a percentage (1/3 or 1/2 ???). I think that would be an interesting dynamic. There is so much potential for cool maps in this series. You could do the Aiel Waste, with the areas with water being especially valuable for example. So, so many possibilities.

you could make it that when you use the ways you can only move up to 10 men to where ever you attack

I think that creating a wheel of time map would be a good idea. It offers up a possibly uniqe form of gameplay. I myself have no idea how to make maps but someone else is welcome to give it a go. Or send a step by step guide of how. either or.

I agree, however, copyright is an issue.

If it weren't, I'd make the map.

That has nothing to do with it...

The Wheel of Time is a fantasy series. The map of the world in which it takes place looks like this:

And if anyone got permission for the map, I would be completely up to making it. The problem is that Robert Jordan is dead, so I'm not sure who holds the copyright.

His wife Harriet owns the copyright on all of his works. I am currently in contact with Brandon sanderson the person writing the final book of the sereis and may be able to get the copyright permission needed. I think it would be a good map to play. If I get this are you in InklOsed?

Just waiting for brandon to get back to me. It could take a while because he is busy with his books and still has to make appearances at book tours for his mistborn series.

DO IT DO IT DO IT!!!!!! ... sorry... I'm kind of an avid WOT fan... I would love to have a CC map representing the series!! do you have any ideas for terits / borders / continents yet?

I think you should be relatively successful at getting permission to use the map. Harriet is known for letting people do a lot of things as long as they honor the series and don't mess around with it in any way.

Sidenote: Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn trilogy is one of the best you will ever read. He teaches creative writing at BYU, where I go to school. :D

Alright then, I'll throw out a couple ideas in terms of game play.

Scenario 1:

Classic game play. Territories are countries, perhaps with a few of the lost countries like Caralain, Almoth, and Haddon. Continents would be regions (ie, the Borderlands would be one continent, Andor+Murandy+Ghealdan would be another, etc)

Scenario 2:

A Road / city map. It'd be like Midkemdil, and the territories are cities. Connections would be via roads and rivers, perhaps the sea and Waygates as well.

Scenario 2a:
Possibly also include minimaps for certain cities (I'm thinking Caemlyn, Tar Valon, Cairhien, and Ebou Dar)

Scenario 3:
Make it a war-themed map. Maybe have the Seanchan be one faction, Rand's empire be another, Elaida's Aes Sedai and Egwene's Aes Sedai be another two, and of course with the Shadow being one up north.

Right now, I'm really digging the idea of 2a. The minimaps for each city would have to be quite small, but they'd add a lot of interesting features to the game play.

you could set up cities as terits and countries as regions - not sure how well that would work, might make Caemlyn have too many terits... however you decide to do this, it'll be a cool map to have.

so are you going to start it now, or after the final book comes out?

would you include the Blight/Shayol Ghul??
what about the Waste?
Shadar Logoth? that one's tricky because it doesn't really exist any more...

I've been working on a draft, because I just can't help myself. I was assuming the Blight and Shayol Ghul wouldn't be territories, though that may be a good idea actually.

And I don't know why I'd wait for the last book to come out, though somehow I don't think it'll be finished before then.
