I can do it on the large map at 840px, but there's no way I can make it on the small map at 640px. I was thinking you need a new featured map to display and bring forth new players, and keep the old ones happy. World 2.1 is probably the second most popular map, after classic. People like geography based maps, and better yet - maps of the world.
I'm asking you to allow me to create this map, using the current size restrictions, however at only the large map size. If you don't think that is fair, then I will not be able to create the map...
Sorry, we need large and small versions of all maps. CC supports 1024x768 resolution browsers those users shouldn't have to scroll much.

ya... i'd remembered seeing that conversation...
I'd suggest we keep trying to think of ways to compress the necesary information about each country. Perhaps use only the three or four letter names and stick it in one small box for each country. idk, i really want to see this pull through, so let's keep thinking.

Every country has a 3 letter abbreviation which could be used.. ie AUS is Australia, NZL is New Zealand

Apparently there are some changes coming, in relation to this thread
here (about map sizes). I dare say we should wait and see what happens there and check if the map size limits a increased, then it would be full steam ahead.
As Rjbeals said, this would be an almost impossible map to make within the current size limits.

I have a newbie suggestion for this map but I don't know where you put images....
Relocate the Key to the top and trim to a few lines, cut the space in the southern ocean - its only a projection problem anyway. The key is so large I can't see the board when I play....
ie
KEY
MAP
gameform

PC -
This sounds like a complaint about the world 2.1 map which is currently in live play. This thread is a suggestion that a new map should be made which would include more terits than even that map. Unfortunately no changes can be made to a map already in live play unless the cartographer (and enough of the map making community) decide to do a remake. Once this map gets underway, we will welcome such suggestions to improve it. As is, i suggest you make sure you're using the small version of the map while you're playing. Also, since World 2.1 was released the size restrictions on the small version of each map have been reduced, so no other maps should give you this problem.
If i'm wrong, go ahead and correct me....

That makes it the only good prospect for a map you can print out and play at home. Since the cartographers don't draw maps like that these days, a revamp would kill that idea.
I think if anything, the only way this will happen is if it was a graphics revamp only, and i dare say it would have to be a very well done revamp at that, I would make the recommendation to anyone who attempts this that it would be a very good idea to create this map in vector format rather than bitmap......
My final thought on this though, is if it an't broke, don't fix it.
any new revamp would also have to comply with the size restrictions that apply for new maps (yes/no mod?)

I think the revamp idea has kinda fallen apart. If i'm right, the new idea that is actually described in this thread is the idea of actually making a map with all countries and political borders as they are today. Or maybe i'm thinking i'm in a diff thread than i am...

either way... I don't think world 2.1 needs a revamp. However, the idea of making a political borders accurate map of the world today could be really cool and i'm hoping to participate in that process. The problem is it would need to be as big a map as possible, so waiting for the size restriction change that's been hinted at would be a wise decision.

World 2.1 is my second most favorite map to play. It was well done. Better than the original game map. But my most favorite map is New World. Now if that same map could be expanded world wide, I would play it a lot. The colors are natural. The design is simple yet challenging. And I love the colonial period of history.

The new eastern hemishpere map is very good if you like the colonial time period. There was also a new world africa that was attempted but it failed early.
