lol, your method is very inefficient and requires two expensive programs. Not to mention you blur the end result, why did people start doing that anyways?
Here is my mini-tut
1. Trace borders with pen tool
2. Stroke path.
3. Step away from the computer.
that was how the Iraq borders were done.
QFT. Pen tool and paths make borders a cinch. The Citadel has stroked building outlines.

rofl, I think we can all infer from the Netherlands borders fiasco, that you would not be the go-to guy on the topic.

It is possible to criticize what someone has done without sounding like an arrogant ass. It's also possible to read such criticism without having a temper tantrum.

Sure it's not the most efficient way, but I really like the look of your borders Lone.prophet. It just must be hard to make adjustments on the fly.

How to create custom GIMP brushesok with my last tutorial finished, i have time to create this tutorial on how to make custom brushes.
First, create a new image, with any size settings
Draw what you want your brush to look like
Do the following:
File: Save
but u have to go through the following folders to get it as a brush, do this:
Find the GIMP application folder
Now to find the right folder, heres what folders to go through in order:
Contents
Resources
Share
Gimp
2.something
Brushes
And save it as a .gbr
now you should have your own custom brush

ok took me forever to find anything for this, but:
Adding font to GIMP 2.X (X being any number)
OK i found this on the internet, and here is the original link:
http://raygunrobot.com/archives/The-eas ... -with-GIMPBut unless u dont want to scroll through what that guy has to say, im gonna put it in short:
First, know where your fonts that are used in places like Word are
Bring up GIMP
Go under File: Preferences
Scroll down all the way to the one that says Folders, and click the little triangle next to it
Now scroll down to Fonts
Once thats chosen, click the little image that looks like a page with a corner bent
Now it will have a little area for u to right where u want it to get some more fonts from, click the Folder button
Now a window will come up, now work go through your files to your folder were your fonts are kept throughout your computer
Hit ok
Then hit the ok in the bottom right corner
Restart GIMP
There ya have it! no more trouble with getting fonts that you really want in to GIMP!

Its much easier to put fonts into the windows font folder then the font opens with any program that lists fonts.

not for GIMP, GIMP only does fonts from
its fonts folder, or whatever folder u set it to.

thats basically what the tutorial is for, and in short, thats what the tutorial tells how to do.

Ok, so im starting a new map and yeah this is the first time.. Im using GIMP but this question isnt about the image, but about the xml. When writing the xml codes how exact do you have to be with the coordinates of territories.
lets say you have territory 1 (for short T1) and T1 isnt a square or a rectangle. Lets say its a circle. and its far left boundaries is x axis 43 and its lowest boundary is y axis 25 and the far right boundary is 57 and the highest boundary is 69. so this code wil be written as..
<coordinates>
<smallx>43</smallx>
<smally>25</smally>
<largex>57</largex>
<largey>69</largey>
</coordinates>
but wouldnt that make a rectangle shape as the territory? and if it does and i have a territory that fits around the circle then wouldnt the overlapping boundaries conflict with each other?

no
the XML doesnt know what shape your terits are, it doesnt care - all it wants to know is where to put the army #'s, hence the coordinates.
Diamonds14 wrote:and if it does and i have a territory that fits around the circle then wouldnt the overlapping boundaries conflict with each other?
you set the boarders - so you tell it what to do.
p.s. i wouldnt do the XML now, you dont even know if the map will work yet.
i wouldnt worry about the XML for now - you have a month or 2 or 3 'till you will need to write up the XML.

basically the coordinates is the x and y areas, from a graph thing, like this:
_________________ x
|
|
|
|
|
| y
those are the x and y axis, where those cross on the map is where it places the armies. Course, its been forever since ive done graphing so it might be switched
