That's the North Fork of Long Island.

It is not the Hamptons it's the wanna be Hamptons. It is, along with the middle of Long Island where people who want to go to the Hamptons but can't go.

nobody cares about that, that bit of info isn't going to help the map. you need more territories, and although you may not like long island, you its your only choice

There are other options to increase territs.

What if we kill the image of the North Fork and put some boats up there?

Sailor

I have been watching this map for a little while and as a first time cartographer myself (after 3 failed maps) have been holding my tongue a bit. but!

1. 22 territs never gonna work(IMO), adding a few more boats isn't going to work either (8 players 22 terits ... do the math). the area just doesn't seem like it will work as a map
2. The huge improvement of graphics( and well done on this) in the last version still leaves me cold, it doesn't offer anything new, there is no originatility here
3. haven't seen anything in the way of xml, you need to provide that soon

Such a small map needs a gimmick / theme to make it interesting.
Don't want to discourage but look at what you've got versus whats in the game and upcoming and have a good think about what is required

I agree almost on everything, however I disagree on the XML. You don't need that until you're in the main Foundry, or here especially because of the lack of potential (sorry).

Wrong. It's suggested that no mapmaker work on the XML until the map has gotten a Graphics stamp, because the positioning of territories, bonuses, continents, and everything are very subject to change until then. While starting the XML so early seems like a good idea, it's a lot of wasted effort that would be better spent hammering out gameplay and graphics.

Sailor, great improvement on the map this past version. I do have to agree with NemesisChild and say that you really need to expand this map out in some meaningful way. If that means dropping the boats, zooming into the Hamptons proper and creating more mainland territories, then do that. I presently feel like the boats are taking away from the overall Hamptons experience you are obviously committed to. Certainly look into it, as I'm sure you can make a major overhaul to your map as your graphics skill increases.

I would advise to stop focusing on gameplay and fix the graphics.

Gameplay is not really much of a concern in simple and small maps, and the only changes required are 30 second fixes such as changing bonus amounts.

Can you not break up the territories into smaller ones? That would give you more territs. I would sort out more territs before looking at gameplay. The gameplay could change drastically with the introlduction of increased territories.

What would you suggest?

Is this you're latest image?

The things that I would say, are only echoes of what has already been said...

1. The map is small... this in itself is not a problem, but the small-map niche is fairly packed right now, and I'm not convinced there is the need for another one.

2. The graphics, while better than where you started, are still a far distance from that of recently-quenched products. If you think you have what it takes to improve, then I'd suggest finding an idea that has a broader fan-base of appeal, and working on that - unless you can convince me that this idea has wide appeal (the overwhelming majority of the 171 posts so from only a few commentators).
