With so many Real Time games starting from the chat area, and many dragging on for days with players who lose interest in the middle of a game, it would be great to have a Real Time (RT) option when setting up a game....this would have the timer with 10 minutes maximum per move, instead of 24 hours. Can this be done?

Speed Games are coming in 2007.
Until then we don't support RT games.

i think this is an amazing idea- just giving support here, no new ideas

Definately a very good suggestion as this would eradicate all players from waitin endlessly. And more games could be completed rather than havin a million on hold waitin.

wat happens if the rt game takes a lot longer than expected? i hav been in an rt game that i joined with the assumption that i could play for 2hours. it took way longer than that and eventually i had to leave and so did another player. how would it work then? i reckon the 10 minute option should either be set by the players for a certain number of round or hav it apply to the first 10 or 15 rounds etc.

Or if the player who makes the game could have time powers.
If the player that has to leave has a real rpoblem in real life and has to leave maybe the person who made the game could extend his time to 24hours again?.
but in saying this like they said earlier i think most players will just give up their points?

The problem is that sometimes you end up with a situation where your turn does take more than ten minutes. Preferably the time can be adjusted with a vote, as well as compensated based on the amount of armies in the game.

Like speed chess, speed games will require quick thinking and quick clicking.
Like team games, speed games will require different skills to kick butt.

Great feedback from all of you....thank you.
Please keep in mind the following:
1. The amount of time a match takes is largely dependent on the settings, and this determination should be made by the group at the beginning. To ensure a quick match simply have few players and select fortification as unlimited and cards as escalating. We all know that 6 players with fortification as adjacent and no cards can drag on for many many hours.
2. In the same way that we deal with 24 hours per move, we deal with 10 minutes per move. The consequences of missing turns remain the same for both options, all that is being suggested is a shortened amount of time for us hardcore RT players.
3. This RT option does not replace the type of RT occuring now. If people who are unsure of playing an uninterrupted RT match of 10 minutes per move, simply do not select the option and continue to do what is being done now....the option of consensual RT with 24 hour settings will always be there.
I hope this helps clarify some concerns raised.

After only playing for 1 day here are my thoughts on this idea. (Only because I have thought about making a RISK computer game for a long time and have several ideas.)
Let the game creator set the amount of time a player has before starting his turn. (5, 10, 20, 30, 60min, or .5 are good options.) Then you would have to make that part of the Game Finder as well so people can join 'fast' games by filtering for them.
you could also allow the game creator to stop the clock for breaks or temporary absences. (Equivalent to the 24hr pause idea.) This should catch on pretty fast. Soon you will have a whole group that just want to sit down one evening and play a game straight through. And if it just gets to late they can pause and finish the next night.
$$$ Make this only available to premium members and it should generate more revenue. $$$
Part of this can be a 'vote them off the island' idea where an inactive user can be kicked. Then all his/her armies become neutral, no reinforcements. Also (assuming that you do this normally) the RISK cards are no longer given to the player that defeats the now neutral player. (You can either 'reshuffle' the cards back into the deck or just discard them.)
Just my two bits.
Thanks for the great site,

What about the opposite? I've just found this site and it looks great, but I'm not in front of a computer very day - 24 hrs sometimes wouldn't be enough!
If time option is built in, please ensure it extends the other way too - with options for 2 days, 4 days, a week etc! I think you would extend the demographic of players to casual users too = more membership revenues.
Great site and system guys, well done...

I have a suggestion in order to solve this issue:
when you set a game you have to choice two more otpions:
- REAL TIME GAME or NORMAL GAME (it's only a label to mark that it is a real time game)
- TIME DURATION: for instance, 24 hours, 18 hours or 15 minutes per turn
In this way if someone knows that could not play a real time for too long time, then he could simply set a REAL TIME game with a longer time to take turn (24 or 18 hours)
What do you think about it? Could it wok?

I too would like to see a 12 hour time option for taking your turn, for players who check they're games more than once a day.

interesting idea to make it stretch the other way and that sounds good but think how long it would take playing a six player with 4 deadbeats. Good idea if it can be made to work.

True - I doubt anything more than a 2 or 4 day limit would be workable, but still - you're targeting the more casual player, who doesn't necessarily need/want the game wound up asap.
For eg, I go away often for the weekend - its becomes a real pain in the butt going out of my way to find internet access so I don't deadbeat my games!
I imagine through natural selection there would be less of these games created, but at least it provides an alternative to those that need it (*cough* me! *cough*)...

Why noy make aspeed game forum (like public / private) and put a selector for standard games (12hrs / 15hrs / 18hrs/ 24hrs)?
