By the way, I think "A" may be a unique submission and not Pep's map. Note the light splotches in the black territories to make the numbers more visible? If so, that's the only change I notice, and therefore it was the simplest graphical update of them all.

Hmm…I could see him doing D, E, or F. I forgot he made one—yeah, he definitely did one of them. None seem to fit his style, though.

Oh, nice call. I don't think it was the way to go in this comp, though, cause most aren't going to notice that. Hmm…it's too simple of a change to identify with someone.

I would laugh pretty hard if that was one of the more accomplished cartographers - WM, RJ, mibi, gimil etc. Any of them would be pretty funny for putting 4 mouse clicks on the map and submitting it in the contest.

Damnit, I should've done that...

Why are we even talking about how the 3x3 matrix of stuff is arranged... the only monitor dimension that does not allow it to have the proper 3 columns would be 800x600. I just tested it out on a 1024x768 monitor, it fits.

What percentage of people do you think use a monitor that is SMALLER than 1024x768?
What percentage of those people do you think voted from looking at the thumbnails and not at the full sized images?
What percentage of those people do you think did not check to see which map was which on the large images before they voted for it?
What percentage of those people do you think were voting for a map that could have been confused for F or I?

Honestly, I'd be shocked if 2 people ran into that issue and voted for the wrong map. There's more of a chance of someone missclicking on the poll that for someone to happen to have an 800x600 monitor, vote from the thumbnails, not bother to check which map is which, and vote for the two maps that could have been confused.

So why are we talking about this? In the last competition, the thread was actually insightful to read since the topic was about which style of maps CC likes best. Here it's just one kid complaining about the results every other post.

Mine IS at 1024x768.
Why is it that my screen shows it messed up ?

Also, I am NOT complaining. People keep wanting to take my comments the way they are not intended to be. I was only trying to point out a flaw, as I saw it. Nothing more. Can't we just enjoy this contest, and leave all the negativity outside ?

I see some really fantastic efforts here. And, I am very pleased to see that CC will be getting a successful revamp of the much loved Germany map. ...I intend on buying the winner a beer. :D

I really want to know who did map F. The title is great. A little dark but great.
I also think the outer stroke on the tert text could be a bit softer.

I suspect samuel, since the style is so similar to Poland... but what do I know.

Btw my monitor is also 1024x768, and I also see the images as spilled over. But I never had any confusion as to which map is which.

Besides, it's true: who's going to base his vote on the thumbnails only?

I agree with porkybeans, the winner and map should indefinetly have an asterisk to donote the faulty poll and all the mis-votes.

In the event of a tie between L an F, the winner should be H.

There should be 3 selections instead of 2 imo.

Some of these are so dark they're almost impossible to read.

Guys I know it's fun to speculate on who may or may not of done which map, BUT this kind of speculation can alter a person's voting. This could really be more problematic than any screen resolution issue and accidentally voting for Nader...

Please DO NOT from this point forward speculate the author of any of the entry images in this thread, or any other public thread.

Thank you. :D

this was a tough choice, i like Germany..don't know why it was changed. but, there were so many good alternatives. first i narrowed it down to F,G,H,I...and from there i came up with the same conclusion most everyone else has. F and I are the best 2. i like F the best.
also, i looked at the thumbnails, and there was a little confusion..but i was aware that i had to really pay attention to what i was voting for. i cared enough to come in and vote, and i cared enough to double check what i was voting for. i think anyone else who would come vote probably would not have any trouble choosing the choice they wanted.

perhaps PM messages were used.....

2 be honest, i think the voting is all wrong for this.
I cannot understand why 2 options were allowed (unless there is to be a 2nd vote)

1 map should be decided as the winner, and have people make their decision on that basis.
how can we know if some people have voted once for one map while others have voted twice for two maps...to me that scurs the voting.

Yes you can only vote once...but you get two options....and this is what scurs the voting.

Actually, it ensures that the most popular map(s) are identified, and may prevent the need for a second round of voting (depending on how close the final result is).

Yeah I like the two vote system. Clearly there are a lot of different opinions out there (as evidenced by the fact that every map has some votes) but by voting for your top two choices you are doing a better job of separating out the weaker maps. Right now there are two clear leading maps - whichever one gets picked was either first or second choice for most people, so overall almost everyone can be pretty happy with the results.

I can find at least 4 options (5 if you include the original revamp) that fit my eyes, but I had to give 2 votes :( . I was hoping to see a second voting round (yes, with 9 candidates it seems appropiated even if you can only cast 1 vote)... I liked options E (very clean but darky) & G (nice colours combination but the impassables look too rigid imo) a lot, but my votes went for F & I...
Anyway, good luck to the winner
