lucky charms sucks in terms of readability. I have missed seeing opponents armies in some diamonds because the shapes are pretty small relative to armies' numbers font and you confuse the colors ocassionally. Lucky Charms if it is our future needs some basic cleanup to be more usable, readable

the new classic art is more usable than lucky charms, maybe there will be more of such maps, I am giving a trial game or two with it now

The simple "Lucky Charm" version is true to "classic" play, because it still retains its original movement and borders with each "territory" or shape. If you add attacking routes and different countries, then you are no longer playing the "classic" map, but instead playing a new map. That's fine, I am all for playing a "new map" but as far as the "classic" style map goes, you have to stick with the "Lucky Charms" version.

It is quite alright after you play a few games on it, I really don't have a problem with it, as long as CC is allowed to stay up and running.

It isn't quite alright....even after a few plays. It's horrid.

The lucky charms version shouldn't have to be stuck with. To say so shows incredible lack of vision.

That map is for total shit. I know I'm not alone when I say....I joined this site to play a game of world domination.....not connect the dots.

This one I quoted is a step in the right direction for visual appeal. With the routes and movements adjusted...it's damn near perfect. (Well...as perfect as the classic was broken....SA should be worth more than AUSSIE...but...that's neither here nor there.)

Well, I think it is great that you are coming up with new ideas for new maps, but as I have said before (and others as well) the "classic" style map cannot be a global map at this moment, because it is basically the exact same map as "Risk" and therefore the similarities resemble each other too much, so that the integrity of "Risk" is threatened (or whatever the legal jargon is in Lack's letter from Hasbro's legal team).

Your map can change attack routes and country names, but that is not considered a "classic" map. It would be considered a new map.

What you need to do is put your map into the Map Foundry and get it approved, and then we can all play it, but it will not be called "Classic"...does that make sense?

And as far as the map being "quite alright", that is a matter of opinion. If my friends want to play on Lucky Charms, then I don't have a problem with it. I wish it could be different, but the legal issues have finally come home and now the community has to deal with it in the best possible light.

I would love to play your map, but it cannot be considered a "classic" map for legal reasons (I am assuming, but this is just how I am reading into the copyright issue at this moment).

Lucky Charms hasn't compromised my membership.

just get the dice sorted....

last few games...lost every single dice roll again...dropped 2 ranks...and not because of poor play...just dice screwing me on average 11 to 1..... which is absolutely rotten and frustrating....

thought i'd just add this on too...just lost another game because of a 9 - 0 roll....how can the dice be so random, yet so unfair for 6 games in a row???

To keep rolling when the dice keep losing is bad play.

I apologise if this has been answered somewhere in the last 84 pages, but what was it that sparked off the whole copyright panic thing? Did Hasbro try to sue CC or something?

And probably sort-of related, but why was it so sudden? Why wasn't there any warning?

(Not that I've been on CC for the last few months, so it didn't feel all that sudden to me, but anyhoo...)

From what I gather...some people who used to be a part of this site are now disgruntled and have made threats or brought Hasboro's notice to this page.

Information about what has happened hasn't been very forthright...at least...not from what I’ve seen.

I know that the name of this thread is Crazy Maps and Dice, but that doesn't quite refer to bad or sucky dice rolls. There is a thread in General discussion for that NOT in Q&A. This thread deals directly with the current copyright issues and the sudden map and dice appearance changes...this isn't about bad dice rolls.

i think from reading this thread that the mods or whoever it is in control should like at least try change the maps if people feel so strong. and since this is like page 84 of this thread... :( or if you cant change them then at least dont name them classic dots or whatever just dont use the word classic and we who dont like the maps can ignore them as some other crappy new maps... the word classic there for me anyway just brings memory of the proper cool map.... :cry: :cry: not really a solution i know but at least seperate them from the good old one and you can just tell everyone that its gone for good!! cause i guess it sorta is...

damn. bungalow, i rely wish i cudda seen the old classic map weeks ago.
:idea: what if we just change the colors of each continent? like insted of blue being europe switch the colors all together! it is a lak of originality but were not plagarizing!!!
and if u dont like that idea, just write to hasbro asking for permission to use their map. im sure they wouldnt mind. and if we fail on BOTH those ideas, lets make an offical "classic conquer club map" that dosent look so bad like these triangles and squares and what not. if CC wants, ill compose the letter to hasbro by email and send it to them.
P.S: for the mods deleting our complaints about the new map, the FIRST AMMENDEMENT in THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE states:
1.all citizens have the right of "free speech." so, even if they delete our posts, we may have to make a petition in the suggestion forum and get every1 of conquer club to sign it that states that posts will NOT be deleted because of cussing,inappropiate things or anything else. our posts can also not be censored.
i hope u all appreciate this suggestion :D

It's a shame that they had to get rid of it...

I still stand by my original idea : someone makes an add-on that uses the map we used to have, whilst on the classic shapes board !
It's not an official Conquer Club map if it's just an add-on so surely the site cannot be held responsible for it (as long as it's hosted off the site, maybe), can they ??

Change the names or something?

Great Britain -> United Kingdom
Western Europe -> Iberia/Spain
Siam -> Thailand

I'm sure we could think of something. :-s

HASBRO apparently have the copyright on the idea of using dice to attack countries of a world map (with specifics eg. this country can attack this country - which, I guess, is how World 2.1 gets away with it).
It's a difficult issue. How much is copyrighted, and how much is not?

Dice=No Copyright
Cards=No Copyright (CC doesn't even use the stupid little horsemen and cannon pictures!)
World Map=No Copyright

However, World Map with exact same countries and placement and strategic movement as the Original Risk Board Game was indeed a copyright infringement; and it left to further speculate that the idea and images of cards and dice being used are taken from Hasbro's copyrighted material, therefor, cards and dice could not be used in association with the Classic style maps. That's how I see it, anyway. I don't know if that is the correct legal point of view on the matter, but that is how I came about understanding why CC cannot use the term Cards or Dice or the types of dice pattern and colors that look similar to Risk's.

Thought I would add my disgust at the new classic map. It feels like I am in a math or geometry class, It is dull, uninventive and is void of any creativity which usually stimulates my battle play. I don't even look at it anymore and avoid classic games at all costs. I don't understand why you can't use the 2:1 map? It wouldn't matter about the smaller scale as you would still only be after the continents. It may be a good time to invent a map in between the 2:1 and the classic..that would be fun!
