Too true. I can't deny the respect I have for someone who can resist the charms of such for more nobler causes, but I also can't help but feel that they are missing out (much like we are on proper animal care of the animals we eat).

She's 10, and very much a foodie. Until this surprise twist she was quite interested in cooking too, but is of course now much restricted in her options there.
The veggie thing seems to be a bit of a fad amongst her classmates too.
I don't know what she'll do come Xmas, when the rest of us have Roast Turkey and bacon and sausagemeat stuffing...

Mind you her classmates will have to contend with the very similar Thanksgiving meal first. (We haven't bothered with that so far, since (a) we're Brits and (b) we have no family in the US to invite/visit).

Tell her nothing, let her taste buds do the talking. Have you even tried tofu? If not, don't.

Given me a hardy bowl of beef stew anyday. Don't think I've ever had mutton or lamb, otherside of the odd gyro, I think that would be because I might be the only one in my family who might like it.

Despite being an avid meat eater, I'm actually a proponent of tofu. It's rather versatile.

Yes, nothing wrong with tofu prepared well.

I am almost tempted to make her veggie food boring and repetetive, to bring her round. But I find I can't deliberately make bad food, it just runs counter to my instincts.

Maybe I should just say "I'll cook the meat dishes, your Mum can do the veggie ones!"

Good news is, tonight I made a turkey version of shepherd's pie and a veggie version - the curlson went for the turkey.

Tofu as a substitute is terrible. Tofu as its own independent ingredient (such as in egg flower soup) is great.

Is it alright to eat snails?
Is it alright to step on/drive over a snail?
should I feel grief for every roadkill squirrel?

Texture-wise they are ok, if you can handle very chewy things (similar to octopus, but chewier, I think). But, and this could just be bad preparation, they are probably the blandest things I've ever eaten.

Squirrel on the other hand...

Yes, I used to think I liked snails until I learned to cook, and discovered that it's the garlic butter sauce that I like. Snails are pretty well tasteless themselves.


But I was thinking more of the moral point of view.

Nah, just the squirrels and crows.

However, I am of the belief that any meat is good meat, and the more pain that my next meal feels at the slaughterhouse, the more taste I enjoy.
