I forgot to tell that i was thinking about special mini-bonuses in anillo central like +1 or +2 and a very important bounes to df (+6) as is the capital and the most difficult and important territory to hold if you give it a speccial bonus.

Hi MrBeen, I have five minutes for this map right now, so I'll get right to it.

MrBenn wrote:I'm not tied to the ports at all - they were on fumandomeurte's drafts, so I've carried them over. I won't lose any sleep over keeping them or not - I'm happy either way ;-)

I could see losing them, since there is no lack of connectivity as it stands. And since they don't help you wrap up any of the regions of the land I'm not sure they'd be very attractive targets - why waste armies hitting neutrals on a small map when you don't have that many armies/territories to begin with? And once you knock out the neutrals and take a port the only thing you can hit from that port is... another port full of neutrals.

Though I do like the way you've represented them... thanks for not sticking an anchor on there. Dropping the ports would make the green region a more attractive start on a map that really lacks good areas to dig yourself in.

MrBenn wrote:As for the regions, I guess there could be some rejigging - I found this political/regional map: I could split the central regions up?

As I said, the map desperately needs some decent starts - right now Sur is the only region that can be nabbed in the first two rounds, but without mountains it's going to be impossible to hold.

Bonus for DF is fine, but keep it reasonable and it would mean starting it neutral - which knocks you down to an unfortunate 29 territories. 30 is nicer for 1v1 and 3p games.

I'm counting 31 territories without the ports. Looks like you forgot Colima (bottom-left) from the latest update. With 31, you could easily code DF as a neutral with a bonus.

i'm not so sure about "desperately". after all, greenland is a similar size of map with one 3-region bonus and one 4-region bonus; the gameplay seems to be pretty solid. removing one or more of the ports, maybe even all of them, will reduce the number of places where bonuses can be attacked, probably to the map's advantage.

Not sure if this has been suggested yet, but why not treat the ports like the lakes in the Great Lakes map? In other words, the more you hold, the higher the bonus. So a structure for this map could be:

Hold any 3 ports = +2
Hold any 4 ports = +3
Hold any 5 ports = +4
Hold all 6 ports = +6

I'm aware of the obvious difference (namely that the lakes all connect to each other in Great Lakes while the ports don't connect here from the Gulf to the Pacific). But if the goal is to keep a higher territory count on this map while also making the ports an attractive target, this might accomplish that.

I'm 100% with Nobunaga on this, there really needs to be a map that features Mexico. I have thought this for a while now. This map looks pretty good, so does this one,

viewtopic.php?f=242&t=3943

(which I actually think looks better)

but I definently feel like one of these should be dug back up and put back into the foundry, because the closest map we have to featureing Mexico is First Nations, and that's just sad.

I hope someone will take it up as well, Mexico is now the biggest major country missing from CC. As a reminder to any of you mapmakers with less than two maps in the works, all you gotta do is pm the original mapmaker to take over.

I spent some time last night looking back over my draft... I think I might pick this up again actually, it shouldn;t take too much to sort out the gameplay; the biggest hurdle is going to be sorting out the mountains

Here's the most recent image from the thread, together with an updated draft...

Any thoughts on gameplay? Particularly regarding region groupings and names?

hey Benn, tbh I don't like the frame, I was thinking something more -you know- aztec.
I made this from some archeologic magazine:
[bigimg]http://img534.imageshack.us/img534/4844/grecasaztecas.png[/bigimg]
It's not an oustanding frame but It's an idea.

That won't fit tenochtitlan's pyramids scheme.

EDIT: But I agree with natty, the important thing is to move out this map from the Dead Projects basket.

Personally, I think the mountains look great. You're gonna have to move the names around but otherwise I think they work nicely.

As for the frame... I think Ben's is a little bulky but it works.

I'm so happy to hear that! Like you said It looks like you've already put a lot of work into this so it shouldn't be hard to get this on it's way. ;)

btw, if you count all the subburbs and lump it together (like people do LA) then The city of Monterrey is like the 4rd largest city in north america, I dont see it. It is right next to hildago which is a pretty small city.

This is the north of mexico, around the megapolis of monterrey. I show the significant mountains and how the city complex is nested right in the middle. This may be too much detail for your map to be able to show.

on the far right is one of the few large lakes in north mexico.

This is a zoomed out. The red lines are the mountain ranges , Which I think you knew and put in your map. But also I circled the main deserts .... maybe you could do a -1 or something with them.. I dunno

If this helps you at all Ill do the rest of mexico for you. Right now its mothers day here (yes a day late) and got to do some honeydo's
