As for counting both taxes and private payments, how is this stupid? Yours is the only country that does it, therefore it should not be counted. How can you compare your costs with another country when that country's taxes only, pay for the same? Are you truly this dumb? Surely no one can be this dumb no? The added cost of private care is your choice, therefore it cannot count. All other costs are foisted upon the citizen of a nation. Argh, I abhor retardation, and it seems to be rampant in the USA.

Oh yes, this would explain why you believe you are paying more dollars per capita. That is comparing apples and oranges... or morons and intellectuals.

You can't be this stupid. OFCOURSE I'M FUCKING COUNTING BOTH THE MONEY THEY PAY IN TAXES AND PRIVATE TOGETHER!

The point is, the healthcaresystem of the USA is very inefficient. Due to the fact that there are people who do not have healthinsurance and therefore only go to the doctor when they're dying, the costs of care are higher than other places. And these costs are taken out by insurance-companies on those who do have insurance. So you're paying for the people who don't have insurance anyway, but you're also paying more for them! It's a win-win situation!
Couple that with the fact that the administrative part of all this is frightingly huge because there are so many, many different insurance-companies and they keep a very close eye on their clients. (The insurers for example who don't cover everything or only part of some things.) The current system in the US is bleeding, it needs not just a little mending but a complete overhaul.

The fun thing is, I don't even have to resort to arguments about how denying 16% of your country basic care is fucking INHUMANE!

Because private care is the US's primary means of medical care money privately spent has to be counted. You can call it a "choice" if you want, but the only choice is whether you seek treatment or not. If those who can't afford or don't want to pay "choose" not to then they aren't part of the system. Those that do pay are. Therefore private costs should most definitely be counted. Just because other countries have a different (scratch that, better) system than ours doesn't mean that it's impossible to compare the relative costs between them. Our country very well may be full of retards, but none of them have reared their heads in this thread as of yet.

Who actually said socialism is wonderful?

Karl Marx!

I thought he said it was inevitable.

There's a lt of things you can say about Marx.

One thing you must always remember about him however, is that he is wrong.

'Wrong', in this case, being the Daily Mail definition of 'not agreeing with...'

The answer is yes.

Christians have their propaganda centers: churches
For the Jews: synagogues

I think that many people here are mistaking socialism for communism, the main difference being one is democratic, the other totalitarian. For example, the Soviet Union was a communist dictatorship ruled by a small portion of society, meanwhile Sweden is a democratic nation which has consistently voted in governments with socialist policies. Both have the same ultimate goal, a utopia based on equality, it's just the methods that differ, one democratic, the other revolutionary.

By the way, I do support democratic socialism. And if anyone wishes to face my wall-of-text pwers, just quote me and say I'm wrong.

Well, try standing up in one of the above and shouting out how much you disagree with the basic tenets: the religious ones are the ones in which you'd be the least welcome. At least you wouldn't be guilty of blasphemy in the others.

well actually, socialism is much better than capitalism or communism because extreme ideas will almost never work...
elements of both government regulation and free market is necessary in order for the country to be prosperous...

What ever happened to you Bradleybradley? I did not agree with your views, but you put up some good discussion.

bradleybadly. How do you feel about taxing every property owner in the country to pay for public schools for all?

Just curious...

A subject that hits close to home Backglass?
I pay ~$1800/year in property taxes. If I lived in your county, I'd be paying over $5k

and I live in Mass !

The property taxes in NY are going through the roof. Hope it gets better for you.

We used to have to get out of our lake at 3 o'clock in the morning, clean the lake, eat a handful of hot gravel, work 20 hours a day at mill for a tuppence a month, come home, and dad would beat about the head and neck with a broken bottle, if we were lucky!

I would LOVE $5000. I paid $11,000 last year, no joke...and that was AFTER we applied for a reduction on grievance day.

Wow.
I assumed you'd be closer to Syracuse rates than the city......that's where my $5k assumption came from.
I can't imagine having to pay that much....ugh

I can't either. I do have three kids in school (and the schools are great) and my youngest has special needs so I feel I get my moneys worth. It would cost me a lot more than that to pay for the schooling & services we receive. I guess that's socialist if you boil it down...right? Taking money from others who have no kids to educate mine?

Property tax is a worry of the rich. Unfortunately, they're the ones who run things.

Being an American means having nice cars for both mom, dad, and the two kids. It means having a house with an elevator with spinning rims. It means having trash cans and toilets that costs more than a month of work for most people. Yeeah, boi.
