Here is a post from teh Iwo Jima thread. The pictures how the differnt ways to make good looking smooth lines

Coleman wrote:Okay, here we go. This is the very last thing in our (moderators) eyes. You are free to respond however you wish but we would very much prefer you try to implement what we are about to show you.

First, this is your original image.

We believe you used a pencil effect to do this, possibly with vectors, like one of the three I'm going to show you here.

We all have agreed we would prefer it if you did one of the following and applied the effect to all the borders in the map.

Personally, I like the following one the most.

Now, while we strongly encourage you to apply one of the brush style borders across the map for consistency we will tolerate the current version. For my own position I never could identify the problem in the first place. For others the fact you aren't using a brush version is unpleasant. The end result is we decided to present these options before you, if you insist on using the current map and not making any changes, as cairnswk stated or at least alluded to we will probably quench the map in the near future. If you make the border changes we will quench very very quickly. As quickly as is possible.

When the changes are made, or if they are not, we still need to have you repost text links to the latest map images. The xml link in that post would be nice but I can add it since I hosted it anyways.

The examples were all done in photoshop 8, but other version should have similar features.

Subway tunnels and samurais don't exactly match...

Unit_2....i agree with spiesr on the mismatching of the two aspects noted above.
We have another japan map named Fuedal Japan in Map Ideas here, so could i ask you to find another background image instead of the samurai warrior please, there is plenty of images associated with Japan that could fit, even the classic Japanese Shrine would also be appropriate.

Some things i would like to see....

1. i would still prefer to the whole map in it's proper geographic layout into a 600 wide x 600 high....i'd like to see you try that if you would, as i stated previously perhaps an amalgamation of some of the territories would fix that.

2. good work on the those borders, and thanks to WM for pointing out that tutorial for you.

3. the legend....can you re-order the regions from top to bottom rather than from bottom to top....players look for that logical flow of information.

thank you, i also want to thank WM for that help.

What you need to get out of Map Ideas (For Coleman)
  • Territory Names - Since this is a geographic map people will nitpick these to death once you get them placed. I'd go with cities in each area or major geological features.
  • Explain Stations on the map.
  • Show connections between mainland and other islands, or add stations to the two that don't have them.

I tend to use a 2 pixel brush myself on borders, but I also use softer colors. A dark brown 2 pixel border will look thinner than a black 2 pixel border. In this case you already have black in the color palette so you may want to stay with black, but play around.

1. you haven't explained stations properly in the map. there is some weird looking things on the main island that look like pits, but they are notnoted in the instructions. i.e have graphic beside the stations explanation (i assume this is where they are suppoed to go)

2. same coloured dots can attack each other...can you explain these as islands links or ports or something. it would help to give people a better idea of game concept. and also make them two different colours, not two close versions of red....that can be seen as confusing.

3. There are some weak blue lines linking Shikoku with the mainland. can you also explain these in the instruction or make them the same as the coloured dots, afterall they serve the same purpose.

I must also say to you...when you get in the Foundry (after these changes above i have asked for) be prepared to be literally crucified to some extent. If you're prepared for that, then you might have a chance of getting this map up for play providing you don't get bored with it.
And i am not being overly harsh, condescending or mean by saying that, but it will help you with the determination and courage bit you'll need. By asking you to make these changes before you go in there, you'll appreciate what we have been trying to do towards helping you with some things in preparation.

I believe with this recent update in the graphic post above, unit_2 has satisfied the requirement that were asked of him, and is progressing well with this map. I ask the Foundry to give to him a fair opportunity in the Foundry and enable him to learn what is necessary to have his map Quenched. Good Luck unit_2!

Consider your map, unit_2......
