Re: The International Clan League [Rosters Due!]

Post by IcePack »

Thank you, I'm nearly done Divisions just waiting on some more feedback from others before its posted.
Tomorrow I'll update some of the rosters that have been PM'd / posted in the meantime, and Wednesday the Conferences & Divisions should be posted for everyone to review and I'll be working on schedules.

Schedules will hopefully be posted on the 10th, same day all the rosters are due. That gives everyone some time to review schedules and start planning well in advance to our start. I suggest "busy" clans send in as many home games as they feel comfortable sending ahead of time to create less work for themselves as the season moves on.

Is there still going to be an "input from the public" review stage of the divisions? While I imagine your methodology for dividing teams up will be sound and I'm not really worried about it too much, it's unknown to me... other than it's somehow based on current rankings (presumable F400). I envision something like a reverse snake order between Conferences with a secondary reverse snake order between divisions to make everything fairly even from both conference & division perspectives:

Premier Conference:
Heroes Division:
  • 1
  • 12
  • 13
  • 24
  • 25
Champions Division:
  • 4
  • 9
  • 16
  • 21
  • 28
Pioneers Division:
  • 5
  • 8
  • 17
  • 20
  • 29

Elite Conference:
Legends Division:
  • 2
  • 11
  • 14
  • 23
  • 26
Kings Division:
  • 3
  • 10
  • 15
  • 22
  • 27
Titans Division:
  • 6
  • 7
  • 18
  • 19
  • 30
Then perhaps with a final review & minor shifting of clans if anything looks too weird???
However it's done, I'm looking forward to the season. It all looks fantastic.

MudPuppy,
I finished it last night. Essentially yes I followed a rough format of what you suggested. I'll go into more detail when I post it later today (a few hours from now).
There will be a review period, so far everyone who's reviewed all have been positive, so I'm not sure how much tweaking will be needed. However major concerns that perhaps I didn't see will be definitely taken into account :)

And now the moment we've all been waiting for, announcments for the inaugural ICL Conferences and Divisions make up!

First let me announce that as we have 32 clans signed up - we will have 2 Conferences and eight divisions! (4 teams each division) The Premier Conference will see the addition of the Immortals Division; and the Elite Conference will expand with the Explorers Division!

Next: The process - each clan had its ranking from F400 taken into consideration. Some clans didn't have a ranking - and therefore estimates were used. There was minor edits just to balance / eliminate ties on my part but largely remained intact.

I then worked my way from the bottom up: filling the bottom out to each division and working my way to the top 9-16. Then I assigned clans #1-8 a random number, and had a non-CC player randomly assign top division clans (to remove possibilty of bias).

I then calculated avg expected "weight" of each conference and division and then totaled each conf and division as they were. Then to create minor balance adjustments to overall weights I moved 4 of the lower clans around, which created a reasonably even weight within each conference and division.

Overall I believe the process was fair, unbiased and turned out splendidly. I think and hope it remains competitive not only this year, but builds rivalries for wars to come.

Without further ado, I present the Inaugural International Clan League of 2012!

Overall here are the point breakdowns:
Avg Conf Expected: 345 Points
Avg Div Expected: 86.25 Points

Premier Conference: 347
Hero 86; Champion 88; Pioneers 87; Immortals 86
Elite Conference: 343
Legends 81; Kings 86; Explorers 87; Titans 89

Premier Conference:
Hero: DYN / WAR / TNC / RA
Champion: AFOS / MYTH / MM / RET
Pioneers: EMP / LOW / IGNI / LOTZ
Immortals: FOED / LEG / KOA / MB

Elite Conference:
Legends: TOFU / MD / AKA / TDB
Kings: PIG / TFFS / OSA / RH
Explorers: ID / LHDD / HH / Ultim8's
Titans: AOC / GR / 1RFG / SOH

I'd like to see the seeds by team but overall it looks fine.

The Elite Conference seems to have gotten the larger share of top clans with the 3,7,9,11 F400 ranked clans (7.5 avg.) while Premier has the 5,8,10,13 F400 ranked clans (9.0 avg.). I would have liked to have seen those more evenly distributed between conferences but it's not a big deal.

Thanks for the hard work, guys. Looking forward to the season!!!

With the random drawing / placement of the top 8 to ensure unbiased, minor diff are expected. Also, the F400 is based on current standing while ICL is built with sports league mentality of "these teams will fluctuate year to year".

The diff in top 1-5 and 6-10 are very minor overall, and with random placement it's about as fair as could be. And when you look at the expected weights conference wide, they are very close and as you said, the Elite Conference has just a slightly higher difficulty level overall than premier, but not a statistically relevant amount. Expected weight avg was 345 and elite was 343 and premier was 347. Both 2 pts +/- from expected.

I think year to year this group will fluctuate well, while if I tweak to much for the "right now" ranking, it may affect to heavy one side or the other in the future.

Anyway, I'm glad the feedback do far is largely positive both in forum and privately. I don't expect to many hiccups.

benga - the ultimate goal is to build permanent places into the ICL for future years.
This will be adjusted as little as possible, but can be changed due to number of sign ups, etc.
If we expand or contract year to year it may mean a change in number of divisions or teams per division. We will address this next year, but this is the answer that is the "goal".

Leehar - Random Heroes, they signed up via PM. I'd have to look into time / date.

hey so i noticed that for each conference you have 5 teams going into the playoffs....usually with 16 teams in a conference, 6 go, but anyway, how will the playoffs work with 5? The worst division leader will play the wildcard in a round where everyone else has byes?

Can I just check one thing.

Am I reading it right that it is "maps can be used once per set". With a set being 3 games. So maps can be repeated through the season many times.

One last clan to give me their starting rosters. It seems there will likely be a small delay in the schedule (technical difficulties made me do it twice). So, I'm expecting sometime this weekend. In the meantime, I have requested privladges for our game team and will answer any more questions + get a little more organized.

Thanks for your patience, as a special treat [player]chapcrap[/player] will now sing a love song to you all while you wait. I'm sure he would love to have some song requests posted on his wall :D
Cheers,
