They don't have the title of "soldier". They are enemy combatants. They aren't criminals. They are at war with our nation, but since they do not belong to a nation of their own, they are not soldiers.

Just like the enemy combatants of the American revolution. Although they were born in the country, it's up to the occupying power to define whether they are rebel soldiers or not.

I'm so glad in the free and democratic west you have a libertine press that aren't simply slavish propaganda tools to rally the brainwashed population like in the evil socialist states of Eastern Europe prior to t-er, oh wait ...

If Hitler were alive today ...

We love the Jews! Unfortunately, the evil British were using them as human shields so we had to truck them all to a warehouse and gas them. We did it because we love them so much and wanted to make sure we were able to stop the p**s from using them as human shields. If you're going to blame anyone, blame the p**s for using them as human shields. Shield shields. By the way, did I mention shields? ... (shields)

I thought you were joking talking about the grand conspiracy pulling Osama's strings.

How so? Explain.

What grand conspiracy? You really believe him that he was just a lonely man with no support from anywhere else?

BigBallinStalin wrote:I don't think so, Tim.jpg

As MeDeFe stated previously, OBL knew a lot of dirty secrets of the US, and I reasonably assume that the US intelligence community knew enough about Osama's role that it wasn't worth taking the unnecessary risk of extracting information from him (assuming that what OBL knew wasn't already known or is only known to OBL himself). There are other people and other methods for that same purpose.

Well, perhaps I worded it in the wrong way. I'm fairly sure that there are things that we could have learn from Osama, but I do agree that it was too dangerous from specific individuals and they concluded that the risks are too high.
But... It was so artistically done.

I don't think there was anything that we could have learned from Osama. He was at the top of the wanted list, and the top of al Qaeda. Our military had to start from the base of his organization and climb their way up it's hierarchy to find him. So we know what there is to know. If you listened to the White House they have already said this much. The last piece of the puzzle was in finding Osama and exterminating him.

saxitoxin wrote:Anyone killed who who might cause a down-tick in opinion polls was always "being used as a shield."

But, most westerners are dumb enough to believe this B.S. (see string of posts above) ... just like the body quickly dumped in the ocean in the middle of the night and the mansion, where all remaining physical evidence might reside, catching fire and burning to the ground within 15 minutes after the raid.

Most of these Westerners are bitching that this doesn't change anything and that there's some ridiculous conspiracy at work here. That's what the string of posts above are about. Those dumb westerners are on your side. Besides this, what physical evidence do we need? For what purpose do we need the mansion? It was fairly common place for American soldiers to destroy the homes of terrorists and insurgents until Rumsfeld issued the order for no collateral damage. After that our soldiers usually had to run from firefights or get permission to help out other squads. This is a return to the American military's symbolic "you burnt my house and now I'll burn yours." f*ck 'em all if they want to protect Osama. That's just common sense.

But me, I've got no time for whining about killing Osama or how it affects global politics. Nor do I care how it affects US relations with mountain people or wasteland tribes. He got what he had coming to him. Call it revenge or don't, some of my fellow Americans deserve a little justice.

No, that is my point. If we had attacked or threatened their country or way of living, then they would be justified, could be considered soldiers.

Palestiniens, even the Basque, etc .. I may not agree with them, but they are fighting for the rule of their homes. Al Qaeda have no such claim. They are purely out to destroy us because they don't like us, no other reason. They have invented a "cause" and are hijacking their religion to do it.

Just about 45 minutes ago on the O'Reilly Factor, Peter King made statements that the original information about Osama's courier was gathered through enhanced interrogations, including waterboarding, possibly from Khalid Sheikh Mohammed himself. If so, that is pretty damning to the naysayers of waterboarding.

Here's an article about it, but Peter King's statements are not included (unless the article is updated): http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2011/05/02/bush-era-interrogations-provided-key-details-bin-ladens-location/

NightSTrikes, if we Chinese water-tortured them until they gave us the directions to bin Laden, would you say that's justified?

Isn't that the point of torture? To get answers?

Waterboarding is not torture, for one. For two, the argument has always been that under dire stress, a person will just say anything to make it stop, whether it's true or not. If this story is true, then it shows that reliable intelligence can be gathered through enhanced interrogations.

No, Nightstrike, I says that under torture people will lie just to get the torture to stop.

(1) o quote one of the great thinkers of our time:

(2) We in the business like to call dire stress "extreme pain or fear of death". If you chinese water torture someone, you'll eventually get your answers.
