Re: [POLL] POISON ROME V9
OK...i'm listening to all...i was figuring that one thing that the Romans all enjoyed was food and wine.
Now, i think this would add another special dimension if there was a wine, cattle and corn factor incorporated in the map (would make it very busy) so that every family unit could gain a bonus +1 if they held a combo of corn, wine, pigs and land
What does this do to everyone's thinking.

Re: POISON ROME V10(P7) - Land, PIgs, Wine added Bonus
Gotta day, not a fan of the new wine and pigs and what not... They don't seem all that well integrated into the gameplay (or the map, for that matter). Plus they're a bit confusing: so any terit can attack any "resource" terit? Is it just one-way attack, or can I attack other wine terits from, say, wine 1? Besides, they're just more neutrals to kill. Why would I want to kill, say, four neutral 2's for a basically undefendable +1 when I could just kill two enemy terits and get the same bonus, all while diminishing my enemy?
Personally, I'd get rid of them.

Yeah, the resources are not the way to fix things. They clutter the map as you've noted, cairns, and as Incandenza has noted they are basically undefendable. Not the right fix for the map, though I like the new title a good bit.
Re: POISON ROME V10(P7) - Land, PIgs, Wine added Bonus
As people have already mentioned, the resources only serve to add to the confusion...

It' occurs to me that we could talk about the Drusu/Antonia family bonus being a 3, given the inherent difficulty in getting it.

The Neon Peon wrote:That's the problem. I don't really know how the map could be improved. It seems fine the way it is when I look at it. I am more neutral on the matter than anything.
I will still definitely play it when it comes out, but the whole feeling is not like a map.
Can i ask why you say it is not like a map.
Sure it is not like a geographical map, but then nor is some of the game maps that have already been quenched.
Below is the definition from Wiki
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Map
A map is a visual representation of an area—a symbolic depiction highlighting relationships between elements of that space such as objects, regions, and themes.
To me this is a map. It represents relationships between elements of objects in that space.
It fulfills the requirements of the original game here in CC in that some of those objects can be grouped together to form "continents" and the family members are the "territories", and there are bonuses associated with these groupings.
It is possible to attack certain territories from other territories.
It is different in it's visual presentation from the normal, that i will grant you, but then when i did Pearl Harbor using lines, it was very different.
So explain to me why you think it is not like a map.

If you're going to spell Jupiter with an I, spell it Iuppiter. In other words, go with either Jupiter or Iuppiter. You can't have half of both spellings.

Can you comment on the bonuses please.

I think Julia the Elder + Marcus Agrippa should be a 5, because of all their children that can be bombarded. Also, if you have Julia+Agrippa as well as Julia+Marcellus, that's a +6, which I think is fair.

But Julia the Elder ( I assume you're talking about her for +6) had three marriages....if you give her +5 with all those children, that will make her +7 with her two other husbands.....
and what about Agrippina and Germanicus....6 children....does that union need to change to +5 if Julia's union has 5 children for +5 ?

But that would be an extra border, which probably warrants an extra army as a bonus. Actually, come to think of it, every territory in those continents can be attacked, so Julia+Agrippa could even be a 6.

No, because Livia can't bombard their children.
Actually, I think that should be a +3, because you can actually hold all of their children and grandchildren with just Agrippina, Germanicus, and Caligula for an overall bonus of +5.

Also working on the xml to see how it all fits on the map.

Well, if nothing else, this definitely belongs in the main forum. I'm sure I have comments, but it's late and I'm still digesting xmas dinner, so insightful commentary will have to wait for another day.
Merry xmas, cairns! Hopefully it's warmer there than it is here (my mom's place in connecticut, somewhere in the 20's fahrenheit, freezing my ass off)

And Merry Xmas to you and your family Incandenza, hope you enjoy seeing your neice.
It is very warm here, although at least mildly pleasant after several weeks of 36degree C and 70% humidity.
I'd luv to be rugged up in winter gear. Enjoy.

Re: POISON ROME V13(P8) - The God's Temples
In studying this map again, I think I have been mistaken. I am beginning to understand how things work now. My only question now regards the fig bombardment - I must be missing something, since all the figs on the board look identical to me, so which can bombard which?
Also, a minor graphical note, could you make the adoption paths a bit darker? They shouldn't be too pronounced, but it took me a while to find them.
Sorry about being such a nay-sayer before .

Zeak...do you read instructions?
If you did, you would see that down the bottom of the map in the One-way Bombardments section, there is a Green fig marked Livia's Poison Figs with a one-way arrow to red figs....does that not tell you something?
I am however pleased you've got the guts of the play
Here is the xml written.
