maybe you could have remnants of an old campground somewhere...kinda like the people left in a hurry or were killed, leaving there stuff thrown around...

about bspride's suggestion, maybe just a destroyed building or area, nothing specific. So we could leave it to the players imagination to decide what resources they might be gaining from controlling a destroyed building.

This does look like a work of art ;-)

I'd like to see an ice-sheet expanding into the sea a little bit, so you've got a transistion from snow-covered land to partly-frozen sea.

Have you thought about a 'wilderness' in the corner - snow-covered fir trees... maybe even a lamp-post a la Narnia or something?

I'm not too sure about the ice sheet, because I just don't think it would come out looking right. I like how the rivers and ocean look now, I don't want to mess it up by adding ice to it.

I'm going to try making some trees, but its a completely new thing for me to attempt.
If it comes out looking good, then I will put some trees, and then maybe a timber camp and log mill to go with it.

Looking good :) some things tho...

1) I really like how you did the building next to the lighthouse, could you do all the buildings like that?
2) Are you gonna add mountains or anything?
3) If your gonna have bonuses for iron mine gold mine etc, then you should space them out, and they would look better in my opinion if they were in the side of a mountain....
4) Could you lower the opacity of the shadow of the bridges? they seem a little to dark in my opinion
5) How about some ice in parts of the water? that would add an interesting way to get across

I guess I'm going to be a sourpuss. I know that wca is about to get Oasis quenched so he's obviously a guy who's sticking around. Buuuuuut, he doesn't have any territories or continents. I'm not trying to comment on how you're doing your job (volunteer) and you do a great job at it and we're all appreciative of your time but we've had plenty of maps with territories continents and many updates that don't get the adv idea. This map realistically has had zero updates. showing glimpses of your map and then showing the first blank version without territories is not an update let alone the few that you're supposed to have.

I actually agree with you, I don't think this map is anywhere near [adv idea] stage yet. I would have said close to the same things you said about the lack of updates and the other more complete maps, I just didn't bother to write it out yet. I was thinking of talking to gimil first instead of saying something right in this thread.

I was quite surprised this got [adv idea]. Because it is still so early on in production and it will still be in ideas for a very long time.
I wouldn't have given this map [adv idea] if it was my job to lick it, but I just accepted what I got until I could PM gimil about it.

It seems like a bit of a mistake to sticky this so early, when there are many other maps in this forum that are much farther ahead in development. Maybe he meant to give the [adv idea] to a different map, just got mixed up and put here instead. This map is no where near anything other than the extremely early development stage. I'll PM gimil and talk to him about it, to see what he thinks. I don't think I want this thread stickied this early... its definitely not ready yet.

I have no doubt that this map is going to be great.
But attention to gameplay (territories/bonuses) is definitely necessary.
If you're still trying to come up with enough resources, I think a smoke house makes a lot more sense than a graveyard.
You don't bury people in snow.
If anything these folks would probably be giving each other Viking funerals.
Unless this isn't a yearlong winter we're talking about.

I think you should consider adding ruins off in the distance (maybe one of the far corners). it could add a bit of mystery to the map, and i'm certain you could make them beautiful. I was think some sort of stone ruins, and as for a resource behind it? maybe the locals have given it some sort of spiritual significance they find essential to life?
i don't know, just an idea, but i feel that it would fit beautifully into your map/graphics style.

I agree. A graveyard in a terrain like the one in this map is just ridiculous.
And a settlement in this kind of terrain would very likely have a smoke house.

Have you had any thoughts about how this map is going to play? I'd like to see a version with tentative regions (even if the graphics behind it aren't complete) so that we can at least get some productive gameplay chat going on.

I'll probably be redrawing them all to have correct shadows. Maybe not in the next update, but it'll be done eventually.

if the area outside the village is neutral, they will have to have a small number of neutral armies on each territory (1-2), or else there will be no incentive to waste armies on going for a bonus. Why would I go across the snow instead of just attacking the people around me?
