Who lean towards the more pragmatic sides of their respective parties.

In very simplistic terms Obama has far more charisma and appears to have a greater depth to his sophistication. He has a broad world view and his background in the Far East (being a POW does not really give you balance on that front) gives him a massive advantage in dealing with the World stage catastrophe which has been acted out in the American peoples names, over the last few years.

Now there are many more reasons for which i perceive Obama to be a good candidate for presidency, not least the style with which he has dealt with the barrage of bitter rhetoric from the Clinton camp, (a sad day for Bill .. if he could keep his gun holstered, it may never have happened.. as Hillary bargained love for power with him.) but to base your defence upon a Fox-fed trail of prejudice is not a great way to glean a meaningful debate on the finer detail of the two candidates.

Let me tell you a bit about myself. I have voted Republican for President since the day I turned 18. In 2004, a watched the DNC hoping that Kerry could give me a reason to vote for him. He didn't. I am a registered Republican but want nothing to do with the Republican party as it is now. I learned about Ron Paul and HE is the kind of conservative I am. Follow the Constitution. I consider myself to be an independent free-thinking Conservative.

McCain will continue the war policies of Bush. THIS is my #1 issue. I listened to O'Riley the other day say, "Some Americans want us to lose the war in Iraq" and then called them names. Well, I don't CARE whether we win or lose the war. I just want our troops OUT of Iraq. They should have never been there to begin with. Un-American?......... BS.

If one of your reasons to vote against Obama is that he's black, then yes, you are being racist to the extent to which it is a factor in your vote.

However, having this as a factor in your vote for him is not necessarily racist. Obviously voting for Obama solely because he's black is stupid, but I don't think people do that. He's not the first black candidate ever, after all, simply the first to be nominated. Those same blacks who voted for Obama wouldn't have all gone Republican if Condoleeza Rice or Colin Powell had been candidates, for example. No, they voted for him also because he mostly shares the views on issues.

I say it isn't racist because I feel that when they vote for Obama, it isn't because they hate whites -- it's because they're proud of the first legitimate black candidate. But when white, blue-collar men vote for Hillary and say "race is a factor", I don't think they're voting out of white-pride, but rather out of racism. Obviously I can't tell you this as a fact, but I think we all know there is some truth to this.
