8% of people convicted of murder are eventually exonerated.

Even if it was .08, that's still a lot of innocent people convicted.

8% is a pretty low number. I'm not saying i wouldn't feel guilty if an innocent man was hung for a crime he didn't commit, but take that shit bird who stabbed some poor innocent girl on a train just a few weeks ago. That guy I have zero feelings for if he were turned into a halloween decoration.

This specifically popped at me. "The only data that we can quantify with any certainty are the numbers we get from exonerations and death penalty records. As of January 2020, there have been 2547 exonerations nationwide since 1989—which is when record-keeping began. It’s also estimated that somewhere close to 4% of defendants sentenced to the death penalty are later proven to be innocent of their crimes."

I'll be the first to admit and advocate that our justice system is a joke, and having a nation population of incarcerated people is pathetic, but the ones that actually commit murder, rape, pedophilia? Yeah, kill em.

I didn't exactly pull the 8% out of my ass, but I did pull it from a distant memory, so I won't argue it. 4% might very well be correct, and it's a lot, when you're talking about life and death. That's one person out of every 25.

Roughly 8,500 have been put to death between now and 1970. Roughly 350 if we're going off the 4%. That's a pretty large gap and a significantly low number all things considered.

Would I like it to be 0%? Sure. I also want a blowjob from a leprechaun. It's not realistically possible because of human error.

I'm still for the death penalty.

i didn't do any research because i have tournaments to update, but i'm going off of memory here because i read about the last guy put to death via firing squad in utah, something like mormons believe something about blood having to be physically spilled on the ground or something like that, but they wont just give you the firing squad, you have to request it. not much of a deterrent to be honest.
