I've been really digging the Joe South songbook. The first song is the original. Joe South wrote it for Billy Joe Royal, so really it could count as a cover too. You probably know some of his other songs. I have included them below. They are covers in that they are not recorded by the songwriter, but they are the "original" recordings.

The First Time I Ever Saw Your Face

Original:
Peggy Seeger, 1957

Cover:
The Flaming Lips and Amanda Palmer

Turns out that cover has a pretty controversial history though.

For that one? Originally it was going to be a cover with Erykah Badu, with a graphic video involving nudity and bathing in blood. The Flaming Lips released it without her approval. Had to remove it, and got Amanda Palmer in instead.

At least, that's how I think the story went. Just going from memory.

Oh....RL.....you make me sad...... :(

On a positive note, however, there are about 20 covers I've seen of this and other Metallica songs that are excellent.....but not better than original....as Metallica ROCKS...... :D

Pat Boone: Enter Sandman

One of the funniest covers I've ever heard. Gotta love a cover that cleverly rips apart Metallica fan boys and punctures the singer's image at the same time.

I can imagine a world where YouTube lets you block videos based on zip code. Then you could really have targeted disinformation campaigns.

Happens all the time. Stuff gets blocked by region. I can't always watch clips from Comedy Central in the UK until someone uploads them to a different account. Is this really something you've never come across?

Not according to zip code which would narrow down which neighborhood you live in.

Awesome stuff, though after watching Metalocalyspe, guys who think that metal means singing via taking sandpaper to their throat make me laugh a bit, especially when there's obvious talent behind the lead.

Nice, but I have a special place in my heart for Big Iz (Israel Kamakawiwoʻole), the poor bastard....one concert I wish I could have seen...I own all his albums. Have met 2 people in Kauai that knew him.....such a sad story and such a wonderful human being

His funeral in the end of the video is amazing....he was universally loved....
