Just thought I should say I had two ideas on the look take a picture in game from above the map(Hard but not impossible), or I could draw out the layout of the map and have familiar things in there such as the bases cliffs and whatever other good ideas come my way. Keep in mind I'm very open to suggestions... so spam away!!!

Summer Camp

Summer Camp
Alright, I'm going to come out and say right now, I'm definitely not the best artist, in fact, my skills are about on par with the children that would be attending this little camp. So let me get this out right now,
this is basically a call out for an artist, I can do the XML. Moving on, here is my little draft, which needs some serious redesign...
So, as you can see, this is supposed to be a summer camp. My original idea would have all players start on the road, which could be split into six territories, and force the others to be neutral, as this would really support the, just getting to camp theme. However, that really wouldn't work, so I decided on more traditional gameplay, like CCU. Like this, paths can not be controlled.
Basically there are a few major areas, the road, the lake front, the cabins, and the counselors. I'll walk through all of them...
- The road: This would be split into a few different pieces, nothing spectacular there. (I was thinking about subtracting armies for a road upkeep, but that would be cruel).
- The lake front: This includes the dock, the swimming area, and the boating section, noted by the roped off area. Possibly boats and canoes could be controlled, I don't know...
- The cabins: Each cabin could be worth, oh say...one army (don't quote me on that), as this would be how many campers you had under your control. The more cabins, the more armies.
- The counselors: They are spread around the camp, controlling them would be essessential, as they control the major crosses/intersections of the pathes, making sure the campers don't get too violent
Alright, I think that outlines what I wanted to do, please be honest about this, whether you like this, hate it, etc.

It is a good idea...but...

I like it but you should probably involve the lake in some way. (have like a swamp monster coming out of there lol) Also I'm no artist either but if you slowly work on it piece by piece it should end up fine... try not to do it freehand and you'll be fine.

Right now, it just looks like a field. Maybe add some more camp things, like archery, or color war (maybe make the whole thing a team's map of the camp for color war!), or climbing wall. There are a lot of things that can make the game interesting, i think this could turn out pretty good.

The drawing was just to give a visual of what I was aiming for, it definitely needs a lot of work. Or even better, I could shift the focus to the lake itself, so have lots of boats and little islands...hmmmm...

I suppose I could try...

Those are all fantastic ideas, like it could be split into different age groups and such.
Alright, well, I'll see what I can do with my limited skills and come back with another image.

Alright, I gave another shot, but I really can't draw to save my life, so this is what it ended up as...
Alright, this focuses on the lake, all canoes can attack each other, and the dock. The blobs in the swimming area are campers, and are split into little groups that can attack along the lines. I think this is a much better idea than just doing the entire camp, though, that's only because I can't figure out how to draw anything better.

You shouldnt make the mpa in paint, you should download a free program. You should make it on its side, and bigger. I cant really tell which is a territory and which isnt. Im sure graphics will get better as the development continues, so im not worried about that. It will be a lot easier is you dont use paint (some others are here:

Hahah, yes, that just proves my point, this is using the GIMP, as it's one of the few good art programs that works in linux. The second image was made using a couple of layers actually, as I was concerned I would mess it up even more. I really don't want to make anymore example images, as they are embarrassingly bad.
When you say on the side, what do you mean? At the moment it's an overhead view.

I'm not really sure the of the total process. As I do not have my own site but what I do have is connections. Really I just need to figure out how to get the blueprint from my files to here. If you could explain the process better I could have it up as soon as tonight.
basically I don't know how to post pictures with so little cpu know how as it were.

If you are using GIMP, then u can still use straight lines and real circles and stuff, rather than freehand.
Kem Rixen wrote:When you say on the side, what do you mean? At the moment it's an overhead view.
rotate it 90 degrees

Either way, I never really wanted to make the map image itself, as I don't have the time/patience for art. This was made as an example of a project I'd like to work on that I could do the XML for, as that seems to always be a large complaint. If an artist doesn't come along/nobody is interested; I'd gladly do the XML on any project that needs it.

Looks like a good start, maybe add somthing about snipers or vehicles to make the gameplay interesting.

Beleive it or not this has come up before. I remember being quite interested when I saw it.(which was very good and quite accurate) But it never happened because you need approval from Bungie to make it which is extrememly hard to aquire.

I think this is going to be very cool. Halo is already cool, Risk is already cool. So, Cool Halo + Cool Risk = Supercool Map!!!!

I thought about it but I just don't see how I could implement it into the map successfully. Any input would be great.
