This was just a rough mockup to show the possibility of having a list-based format with columns that could be hidden. It was not meant to be a representation of what it would look like when it was finished. Changing the color scheme, adding or removing columns, and putting the search and results on separate pages is the easy part if you start with a system that presents the data in a logical and customizable manner. It could also be possible to allow the user to re-order the columns, depending on how much effort they want to put into it.

The old Game Finder was useless to me because I wanted to easily find multiplayer games that were almost full, and there was no way to do that. The new one is even worse, because it's difficult to scan through, and the card format wastes a lot of screen space. I was trying to present something that would allow everyone to find games in the way that was most useful to them.

would be nice to still have the default settings. if you don't want the checkboxes checked... at least a tab that allows you to select default.

They could allow you to specify one of your saved search settings as a default that automatically comes up. They could also pre-populate some standard search settings (maybe turning off the label, time, tournament and scenario columns). I don't know if either one of these is what you're talking about.

Its that Black line isnt it? It should be the same khaki as the horizontal menu at the top of the website I think.

Agreed. The cringe-worthy tagline can go with it too.

Is there any way to not have speed games selected by default ? Or label them much more clearly? I just joined a speed game and had no idea.

I do not like the new format. I typically join large games (10, 11, 12 players) with only one or two empty slots (so I don't have endless games waiting and can control how many active games I have). With the old finder, all slots, free, reserved or taken, were displayed. With the new finder, the panels are not big enough to display all of the slots. I now have to scroll down on each individual game to see how many are available. Much more work for me.

Is there a setting unknown to me that automatically displays all of the game information? I'd be fine with it taking up more room on my screen, I don't play from a mobile and can scroll down the entire list. I just don't want to have to do it for each individual game.

Can we have the default be 24 hour games. Or at least make speed games really stand out in the list ?

Today I joined a 5 person speed game by accident .. Had to just lose because I had no time for it.

actually, i guess i misspoke. i don't really remember, but i dont think the old game finder had a default. i was thinking of create a game.

still, wouldn't be a bad idea to let you load a (or a few) preffered search/es. that would only be an improvement at worst.

where is the Random choice?

The old version didn't let you have a real choice, but you could select a map and that could've been Random map. In this version, you actually have a choice. It says Random map: Yes or No right under the dropdown menu of maps.

So I am beginning to like the new finder.

If you don't refresh your page, one can do individual search after individual search with no stopping. Great when one has 8 out of 100+ that haven't been scored.

Growing Pain:

I have someone deadbeat out of a tournament, (maybe it only happens to me), and I want to combine two games. The combining is straight forward. But now I have an extra game and I don't know how to make it go away.

I just thought of a way. I could file an e-ticket for each game. I wonder if that would be a lot of e-tickets. Oh, thats right, I am the only one that deadbeating happens to.

now it changed again, and half the games listed doesnt show details like, spoils, or even the map being played.

incompetence once again

Default settings don't show.

Default settings:
  • Random Map
  • Standard
  • Automatic
  • Sequential
  • Escalating
  • Chained
  • No fog
  • No trench
  • No round limit
Thus, if a game is Adjacent, it will say Adjacent, but if it's Chained, that spot is left blank. If it's on Balkan Peninsula, it will say Balkan Peninsula, but if it's just Random map, that will be blank. If it's Assassin, it will say Assassin, but if it's just Standard that will be left blank. If it's Fog, it will say Fog, but if it's a Sunny game that will just be left blank.

This is, I think, a very good improvement. There have always been people who wanted an easy way to find standard default games, and this helps with that very nicely. The shorter the list of settings, the closer it is to default settings. Conversely, the longer the list, the more specialized the game is. You can scan the list very quickly and see the games that are relatively close to default and the ones that are far out.

And yeah, of course you could just select all the default settings, but what if you want a game that's close to default but you don't care if it has one or two wrinkles, like Adjacent or Terminator? Then you can leave those settings blank in your search, and just very quickly scan down the list for them.

I still need to know how to delete extra tournament games caused by people not showing up.

Whichever format can you please put in place a feature that saves my game finder selection? It would be much more user friendly that I use my last selection and change one or two items instead of going through the entire page.

  1. Results from the Tournament Finder window are not being translated back to Game Finder. Fixed on Friday
  2. The "Game Label" won't search for partial strings, only the full game label. Fixed on Friday
  3. The Tournament Name and the Game Label appear on the same line in the results, and if there isn't enough room they are just truncated. Not really a bug. The full Tournament Name and Game Label are available by hovering over the short title.
  4. How do we make a link that can be posted in the forum? With the new Game Finder, the URL doesn't change in the address bar.
  5. can't choose which team to join. Fixed on Sunday
  6. cannot drop games created in error Being worked on.
  7. cannot cancel invitations Fixed on Saturday
  8. Making an invite in a tournament game does not bounce me back to Game Finder with the selected tournament. It bounces me back to my own Waiting Games page, and the game in question does not appear on it.
  9. Those question marks don't actually do anything. I understand that they should expand to allow you to see the players that have been invited, but they don't. Clicking on the question marks does nothing at all. Fixed on Saturday
  10. The search results don't have time limits which is a needed map specification. Fixed on Sunday
  11. add a "win" & "lost" option in the game finder section. Not really a bug, but we're pushing BW to get it added.
  12. One of my biggest issues is I am getting games from last round mixed in with games from this round.
  13. The "Hide Fully Reserved Games" button that is on the original Game Finder needs to be added.
  14. On Assassin games, the round limit isn't showing. Sometimes with non-Assassin games, but not always. Partially fixed.

Duke, any update on item 6. & 11.?

cheers

A patch that fixes #6 has been released on the Beta site and is being tested now. If all goes well, it should be live on the main site tomorrow.

#11 nothing. You can petition BW directly...:)

I couldn't agree more. With all due respect and appreciation to the designers, the new Game Finder format is not good. It will decrease the amount of games that I search for and therefore the amount of games I play. My eyes are strained after trying to look through just 1 screen. Please go back to the old format.

To use the old game finder.
Click on game finder. Then in your browser you should have
http://www.conquerclub.com/player.php?mode=find2

delete the 2. Now you have the old game finder.

PS : The worse in the new game finder, is the double scroll bar. Can't live with it.
