As for renaming things... well, the biggest problem is that (at this stage) it'd mean losing some of the existing country names, and I kinda like most of the ones that are there. And really, don't all of these things figure into warfare? Building tanks in the Engineering department, making black powder in Chemistry, reading De Bello Gallico in Classics, and of course there's Cartography...

fountain gets my vote - with the grey getting some pattern/structure or whatever like the footpaths - not flat and grey

and yes - they do Jota - just thought it would be a little more CC thats all

If I made the Quad match the grassy background, would people confuse it with Athletics?

Perhaps not if you used a different green, and added various walk ways like mentioned. It'd be worth a shot.

A hearty vote in favour of the 3/4 fountain over the skyview fountain and over the cannon.

OK, last version for tonight (maybe for good?):

Image

Revised a few country names, the Quad, and the parking lot. Unless there are significant issues, I'd like to call it finished.

[Edit: Posted before seeing rock's post. I'll keep the polls open for fountains and cannons and such. Switching between those three is a trivial change, so I won't let that keep me from calling it essentially finished if everything else looks good :)]

Admit it Jota, you like the top-down fountain only because the eye of providence is the one masonic symbol that would otherwise be missing...meeting on the level and parting on the square, you are.

First off let me say that I really like how this map has come along. Well done!

I also would like to say I personally like the fountain you've been using.

One suggestion would be to change Liberal Arts to "Social Sciences" because I think that name would describe that group of buildings a lot better.

I still like the horse... it's meant to be a map, and maps have pictures representing things that aren't top down views... However, I do think the fountain looks better now that the Quad has been changed, so I wouldn't mind using the fountain either. The cannon just looks poor.

Like the tank.

                  Final Forge

---The Conquer Club University Map has reached the ‘Final Forge’ Stage. I've revived this thread from the pits of the Foundry furnace and have examined the contents. Nearly every major concern has been addressed. If there are any other current concerns, please make your voice heard. There will be two days for you to post any objections; if no one has posted any protest after two days the map will be deemed finished with the 'Foundry Brand' of approval and will be submitted for live play. If after two days there is still discussion going on it may continue until said discussion has reached the conclusion that the map has reached its final and polished version.

Post questions and concerns if any.

Hmm. I think "Social Sciences" sounds too similar to "Science", personally... plus, the Science/Liberal Arts dichotomy is a cliche that I wanted to take advantage of, even if it's not dead-on exact.

It sounds like the current fountain is the most popular, so I'll stick with that. Are there any outstanding issues that I missed or forgot to address?

Yup, that's a tank. With inconveniently effective camouflage ;)

---Perhaps you should look into a few other images of tanks for the parking lot at ClipArt. Or maybe consider something similar to this Air Plane.

Well, I could just drop the tank entirely if it's not working out.

---I like the idea, I think again you just need to find the right image for it. Maybe something not so dark. Or if you are really up for, try to draw your own! (Or look into taking an image and changing various levels and attributes of it to make it work).

Sounds like this calls for another vote:

Version A
Version B
Version C

Well...

---I'd have to toss my vote out for a flip flop of Haydena's. C--->B--->A.

---I'm curious what if you add a little more military and war theme to the map? Maybe make the football a little bullet riddled and blackened from bombs...or perhaps a bomb near the chemistry facility....and the books? Maybe if possible look for more images to write 'The Art of War' on them, etc. Maybe a few throw pillows....landmines, you know...the works.

I think this map is hovering near the "Clutter Threshold", and adding "the works" would be quite likely to push it over the edge -- especially as one of my original goals was to have a map with a clean, simple visual style, and I'd really prefer not to stray too terribly far from that principle.

Well perhaps not more addittions...but simply make the existing images more CC like.

I dunno. I'm reading this, and it's making me want to go back and rename the football field to what it was. This isn't really the direction I want to go in here. The concept of the map is that it's supposed to be a normal university. Putting a plane in the parking lot and describing football as a "combat simulation" are just jokes added as an afterthought, not the theme.
