I think your map is a tad too tall.
Grampian & Strathclyde colours are too dark IMO. Central and the ocean are way too similar.
You have a few really small territories that would struggle to hold an army number in them now.... I dont know how they'd manage once you reduced the map for the small version.
The white text is quite hard to read in Lothian.

I'm working with both at the moment.

To be honest I think this thread needs a new map. I quite like the idea of a Scotland map, but I just don't feel this one is up to scratch.

how would you want the new one different? (bearing in mind i'm using gimp)

I think for a scotland map it need a strong patriotic feel.

I definatly agree, i am working on adding image overlays so that you get them in the background in the sea

These are all good sugestions and ones i can proberbly fix.
* i can shorten off the lower part whare england is
*Grampian & strathclyde can be brightened
*I coul proberbly enlarge the smallest terrritories
*i can darken Lothian

Anyway, thanks for commenting, i was beggining to think no one was looking at it :D

Map is way to tall. Even though it wouldn't be true north, I would rather you flip the whole thing 90 degrees counter-clockwise & re-align the country names.

I see a very faint texture on the water - try adding some light textures to the territories also. Now they look boring as just solid colors.

Borders look too strong & not smooth enough. For as many curves & twists as you have, I think a thinner border would work better. Maybe use the thick borders for the "continent's" and thinner borders for territories.

Mountains are ok - a little shadow or something may improve them.

Good Luck - it's a tough crowd here.

I done this with portugal.

So to be a hypocrit, id rather you didnt do this and just cut a little of the height.

As long as you dont push teh guideline to far there wont be a problem.

Ok, most of the other things have been done on Scotlandgimp 1.4 which i will post when it is finished.

However, for patrioticism, what do you think of this? I know its a bit scrappy at the moment but should i do any more or make the entire sea made out of these images or forgt it and try again.

I dont think the map should be put sideways. Keep it how it is.
You could probably move the legend down a bit and cut a bit off the top of the map.
You are pushing the size guidelines a bit, but if you keep the height under 800 you'll be fine. Your map is currently 814px tall.

How many territories do you have? I know it is written somewhere, but Im lazy and cant be bothered finding it.

Its hard to tell what textures are really like without seeing the whole map. But at the moment, I dont mind the second from the bottom.

Easily done, is everyone else happy with this?

Already shortened it, i think its ok now

36, nice and divisable

I wish i could get some kind of poll on this as the old one is obsolite now.

What about the image? should i keep that?

Ok this is the update, personnally i'm not too sure about the texture but what do you think

ScotlandgimpV1.4
Image
Things done
Made west lotian & kinross larger
Lightened up grampian and strathclyde
Altered colour for central
Darkened lothian
added land texture
Added image on sea

I can get rid of any of these as they're all nicely layered

i think texture number three was best.

If you want a new poll, PM KEYOGI and ask him to remove the current poll for you.

I have a few suggestions:

1. West Lothian and Midlothian's text runs together just a little, maybe move the word Midlothian down just a touch.

2. Possibly add another picture onto the bottom left above Ireland.

3. If you get time, it may be a good idea to put the army circles in so positioning can be figured out with the text.

The map is looking really good so far!

Looks good. I like the bold color choice between the territories; it makes it easy to see one from the other.

Thank you :D

V1.5 now being started

* does anyone know what the best size for an army circle on a large map is?

22 or 24 pixels are usually best for army shadows.

I'm not a fan of the swordsman faded into the background. It looks out of place.

I think that england and ireland should have territories to make it bigger and also i like the guy in the background. As well as this merge the 2 southern bonuses together and have a south scotland bonus worth 4

I personally think that it should just be scotland.

yeah it should remain an all Scotland map. No territories in England or Ireland.

yes but it would make the map bigger and more bonuses also
