You should do both because its polite...
In all my time playing real life games, you always say hi to the opponent and good game and well played no matter what you think...
So why should it be any different online

Maybe its the British side of me...

Yeah, I just think it's the polite thing to do. I say "gl all" in almost all of my games. Sometimes I will forget at the beginning and say it when I remember, be that round 5 or round 20, but I will always try to say something. I enjoy the conversation. And, I too really don't like it when the whole game goes by and nobody has said a word. When you play risk in real life, do you sit there silently the whole time? Then why do it here?

Its just like in the real world where you say hi to someone, like a stranger, and they ignore you even though direct eye contact was made. Very impolite society i think

People could simply write "GL" and have it be a secret taunt meaning: "Gonna Lose"

:P :P :P

Funnily enough, I posted on this topic months ago adamant that pps should post Good Luck....have thought it over since and since Jan first, the greeting has changed to "HaVe Fun aLL KillerZ"...except in those Term Games where I know everyone and it becomes...GreaT paiN aLL Victims...still polite but to the point...lol

I think more people should use this when they enter a game for the first time:

"Weep before my greatness."

having read the ratings guideline ive had on my wall clear definitions of how i rate players.if someone who cant say hi or something doesnt like a 2* attitude rating with a tag of silent doesnt realise they are being ,in the literal sense of the word, ignorant, then i cant help that. i was recently called a moron and foed for giving this rating , no loss mind, but obviously if no attitude is shown it is hard to rate. im not giving 5* rating for attitude to people who ignore everybody.

I must admit, that sometimes I am guilty of not saying anything at first in the game chat. And, when I do that, for numerous reasons, I try to say something because I realize that I'm a turd.

Because for me at least, it is not merely about the games, and the points, and the rank (although it IS about those things for me at a certain level) it is also about connections with other players and the fellowship and camaraderie that takes place around the game.

So, I agree. We should acknowledge each other in the game chat.

Cheers.

Well I try to say good luck & sometimes I remember :)
The best games though are where the chat is more than a greeting – gentle banter about the dice, a little self-mockery, where you went on holiday….
And for me I genuinely do mean good luck when I say it. Well good luck in the sense “I hope you have ok to goodish luck.” Certainly not: “Please roll only gobsmacking all-conquering 6s and cash 3-card 10-sets without a break until you have stomped all over me.” I’d really like my opponents to feel they have had a fair run at the game and had winning chances - just not for them to have quite enough luck to win. And hopefully they’ll go away thinking wow, what an awesome player that guy is, the way he beat me, after the dice I got too. :D

Why not say 'good luck'?

Here's a few reasons....

Too busy.
Too many games.
Been on the site too long.
Absentmindedness.
Don't care any more.
Don't like the opponent.
Game over before it has begun.

I wish you would acknowledge me with something other than how clueless I am and how badly my random sucks.

Cheers.

Oh. I am now starting games by saying "You got lucky Joshy".

gl jj...

How was that?

Dude. Always go with the Pixie dice.

Just sayin'.

And I agree with LC on the "hey there, have average to slightly above average luck but not Godzilla Dice" kind of "good luck" to the opponent.

Hi laddy, nice to see you made it into a real clan .. and a nice rank too. I wondered when you would start writing again, but i guess you need to be a cook to write properly..;-)

Also, I prefer to wish my opponants to 'have fun' rather then good luck. If they consistently kill my 6 stack without lossess, i am going to loose the game, and where's the fun in that....lol

I just lost a game where my opponant killed me off with very interresting dice (interesting to the 'dice are hacked' guys anyways). I managed to kill on one player in that 1 vs 1 game via nuke-spoils...namely me... THAT was fun, getting creamed by the dice was not.

also thanks for quoting out of context, i always know i can count on you...lol

My quote was not out of context.

Context was out of my quote.
