I good way I got around this in SNV1 was I put a 4 day deadline on but also said the person with the most votes at the deadline gets lynched, it made things interesting and the game quicker!
Haha Spin, you'll never hold a spot in my heart for that deadbeating... I liked SNV1 a lot as a simpler smaller game, though it was lacking participation at times but that most votes = lynch option worked pretty well. I'm not sure if it'd be so smooth in a bigger game though, scum would tend to sit back and wait more maybe.

How nice. Do you think Pornography is a weird set up? Nay! It's not.

I'd rather see long, drawn out days then bandwagons/speed lynching on no evidence or from skimming.
Overall the quality of mafia games has definitly gone downhill lately though and we all are to blame for it for various reasons, mods and players alike.
Without a concentrated effort by everyone, it won't improve.

Discussion doesn't need to take a whole week, I remember the days when a group of us could knock off 20 pages in one night of proper reasoned discussion. So please read my actual post before throwing accusations like that.

Solution: Incorporate interesting setups with easy powers. Wandlore
But yea, every games are now big and weird. A few easy games should probably take place. But weird and twisty is always good..When you can manage.
the player here, an 'average' player at least, is worse than the 'average' player at mafiascum, however. People here consistently use craplogic and poor, subjective play-style.
Mafiascum might take a long time to play, but the games will be active and have good play throughout.

you are right yet wrong. The vast amount of time, leads to lots of replacements which makes less active games, though, you are right about good play. On actually playing the game they have us beat. Espeically with some of the n00bs that play here.

Not really. I look for dedicated players with whom I am familiar -- ones who I know are unlikely to flake out of the game -- when I mod. I advertize the game to them in advance and I ensure that everyone knows activity (and longevity) requirements ahead of time, so they know what they're getting into before it happens. Needless to say, I have far fewer replacements than the vast majority of mods.
I honestly think it's a factor of the moderator's effort at least as much as player dedication. I would also argue that replacements are not inherently bad to games (in fact, they can be quite good much of the time), but that's a different debate altogether.

good point. When that happens there are less likely replacements in a game like that.
