Congratulations to Chopsui for clinching first place in the North American Region and to bonobo's son for being the first player from Europe to clinch at least a regional tiebreaker game.

With three games remaining in the North American region, befera joins chopsui as the regions representatives in the finals. We still await the players from the other two regions.

With three games left in the Europe region Bonobo's Son has clinched a spot at the final table with 7 wins. There is also going to be a regional game play off with the winner advancing. JrEire and Masli are in the regional final and Shai can join them if he wins his DDay game. All the rest have been eliminated.

I'm going to be out of town this week and am not planning on taking my paperwork with me so likely won't be posting an update until Friday when I get back. We should have some resolution of events by that point :)

Ok we're up to date and to answer LLLUUUKKKEEE's question-we don't have a time limit.

Yeah I looked in with them. The truth is that I don't think it would be fair to you to put a time limit in. You're fighting to advance to the next round and it would force your hand. The tournament started without a time limit and I really don't think its fair to change the rules on the contestents in the middle.

That Valley of the Kings game looks almost like an escalating map with all the 100+ armies around.

I understand your reasoning. But these games can last for months, do you want to let evryone wait for so long?
Is it worth it. We'll see what happens... in a month

Let me ask you, since you'd be one of the players most affected. What would your solution be? Suppose we set an Xmas deadline. If the games aren't done by then would you declare no winner? Declare the team with the best strength (as measured by greasemonkey)? or something else.

Its unlikely that I'll do anything to change this one in the middle of the tournament but I'm curious as to what you would recommend.

Yeah that is a difficult matter, but as you see in this games, you shouldn't go for a deadline, cause noone will hold to it. To good players they won't suiscide. So games will continue.
The option bout greasemonkey isn't fair either cause evryone can win, in these games and you don't win because you got5% more power.
My soltion would be( I know I'm crazy) a deadline yes but if evryone stays alive I would declare the players all winners. So we got 4 winners. But it's our tourney, but this could go on forever!!

The problem with declaring everyone a winner is that there then becomes a disincentive to actually make the move to be a true winner. Everyone tries to be sure not to lose but nobody plays to win. Essentially such a solution would ensure that the games would never end.

If you were to set a deadline, the fairest way is to declare nobody a winner. There is incentive to win, and this way it doesn't hurt players NOT in that game by going to a stalemate.

At this point there are still 8 games remaining in the World Region and 8 players who have at least a chance at the next round.

As I've stated I don't like the idea of changing the rules in the middle of the tournament however I can certainly see the point of needing an end time. Lets revisit the idea in another week although if we do have an end time its most likely that we'll go with denominator's solution of nobody getting the win than anything else. We'd also have to put the time limit far enough out to give teams a chance to fight for the win. I'd probably put it for a month from the time a deadline is imposed.

For the record, here's where we stand at this moment.

The North American region is done with Chopsui and befera advancing

The European region has one game remaining and three players still alive. If Shai wins that game he joins JrEire and Masli in the regional final. If Shai does not win then JrEire and Masli will play a 1 on 1 game to determine who joins bonobo's son as the European representatives at the final table.

The World Region has 8 games remaining.

Currently wolfmaster is leading with 8 wins but is finished all games and can be caught by four other players.

Still alive in the world region (total potential wins)

neogeieon has 6 wins and is active in 5 other games (11)
LLLUUUKKKEEE has 6 wins and is active in 3 other games (9)
dragon dor has 5 wins and is active in 3 other games (8)
syzygy has 5 wins and is active in 5 other games (10)
denominator has 5 wins and is active in 2 other games (7)
zero23 has 5 wins and is active in 1 other game (6)-will be eliminated with a loss in his final game.
MarVal has 2 wins and is active in 4 other games (6)-will be eliminated with a loss in any of his four active games

What is the rush? This is a big tournament. I expected it to potentially take a long time. We all had to have premiums to play in it. So it is not like we are holding game spaces for it until the next round. I'd be inclined to let the games finish. If there had been a time limit imposed in the beginning we all might have changed our strategy as we played. It is a good tournament the way it was set up.

We may have a break soon in the final European game which will allow us to start the regional semi finals over there but the Asian bracket is still a sticky morass that is almost anyone ballgame at this point.
