Finally had time and motivation for another update at the same time!

Only the rivers were changed, i'll put the changes on the large version too if people think its good.

I was not able to put the glow around text as I was not able to transfer it from inkscape to illustrator (probably because of my lack of knowledge for illustrator).

As with the name Centro, I'll keep it for now, as in real life it does comprise of all but the 3 northern territories on my map. And it fits well in the bonus legend.

Glad to see you're back at it. :)
One comment:
I don't see a need to put a glow around the text. It's definitely readable on both the large and small versions, and it seems like it would screw with the feel of the map. But maybe not. See how it goes, I guess.

Very nice Bad Speler. This looks great. You should make more maps! Although your bridges and mountains are "cartoon" like - I really like the look of them and they fit perfectly. You can easily distinguish between all bonus regions and borders. And nice smooth borders btw. Your subtle background texture is great. Your territory names are clear and easy to read. You make good use of space.

Critiques:
  • I think Andorra looks a little weird being the only white name. Will it blend in too much if it's black? What about making the non-playable territories a a different shade rather than gray?
  • Your rivers look fine to me now. I only wish you could some how keep the embossed texture in them, so they match the sea areas. I can see where they end, and the sea begins- but it's not really too obvious.
  • I wonder if you need your army circles to be a little lighter? Do you think blue armies on your blue territories will show up okay?
  • And your red territories (Centro) look a little more vivid than the other areas. It may just be my monitor, but nevertheless...

I've tried making different shades for the non-playable areas but it never looked any good. I've also tried placing the name Andorra in the main map but it caused a bit of confusion. I might darken the white a bit to make it stand out a bit less.

I'll try to see what I can do about the embossed texture.

The armies show up fine, there are a few maps with armies on them on page 16.

I'd like to keep the red because i coloured Portugal with the colours of their flag.

I'll fix what I can.

I almost wish you'd change the texture of the overall map. It's not necessary, it's just your ocean and dead territory textures are so smooth it would look really good to have something more like that.

It's up to you though really. I think it looks good as is.

Thanks rev kyle...anyways, heres the next update.

Made embossed texture as strong as I could on the rivers, and fixed as many of those circled problems as I could. Also darkened the Andorra name a bit.

i don't like to nit pick it but there is still lines in the mountins near: Malaga & Cordoba and also in the big Mt. chain starting at Murcia and going up to Teruel and Tarragona.

also look at the river mouth near Cantabria and Pals Vasco, it looks like you covered something up, can you try to fix that.

P.S. Again sorry for nit picking but it looks bad to my eyes

Not a problem, I want to make sure I get this map right. That river mouth has been a problem for me for a while though, I'll keep working at it...I'll try to update tomorrow.

edit: by the way, what screen resolution do you use?

Im going to make a few minor suggestions that ive noiced.

1. Andorra could be a little more transparent, so that its a little more level with the grey of the images above it.

2. Because your boarders are only 1px wide, they are pixalated at bits. This isnt a problem in this case but id still like to see them smother by wither giving then the slightest touch of blur or give a slight outerglow in black on them.

3. I noticed your texture difference that RK was speaking of. Although i dont see it as a major issue maybe if you have the texture set in a different layer you could reduce the transparency a little jsut to soften the texture, alternativly you could give a touch of blur to the tecture as well.

Apart from those small details i see no reason for his not to join the FF crowd

Next update:

Image

- Made Andorra more transparent
- Can't do blur affect in inkscape, so I tried something new with borders, they were originally 0.6 pixels wide and with no transparency, now they are 1 pixel wide and a transparency of 0.55...hopefully this got rid of the pixelation.
- Softened the texture a bit
- Fixed as many of those lines in mountains that I could see, it there are anymore please point them out to me
- Did a bit more work on that northern river mouth

try applying some sort of gaussian blur to the edges near the river so they sort of fade in to it. I'm not sure what it'd look like but it's worth a shot. It may just look good.
