I was in today's Catholic schools. However, in my school, every teacher was pretty faithful and overly Catholic. In younger grades we learned about the religion, and were forced to memorize huge prayers and stuff. In the older grades it was more Bible interpretation, and things relating to it. In the last year, though (8th) my teacher just read us some book about some priest who got tortured.
In the school, we were forced to go to their Church as a class once a month, and every other class had enormous religious bias. Like in 8th grade science, the first two weeks of class were strictly about the Catholic church because "Science and religion go hand in hand, and religion is always correct."
In my Algebra 1 class, my teacher made us all pray for Christian issues in the news as a class, like with the Schiavo (sp) case. "Please God, let her live." In that time, I'd give my teacher a glare, and my lips would never move.
What a waste of time.

To quote The West Wing:School prayer, it's not about religion or freedom. It's about the four year old kid who gets beaten up at recess for sitting out of the organized prayer. It's just another way of making kids different from each other.
You gotta be kidding! A kid is far more likely to get "beaten up" at recess for praying in school rather than "sitting out" of a prayer.
Yeah, prayer is just a "way of making kids different from each other". God how dare you tell us to pray! Don't you know you cause a division amongst the children! And not only in schools but telling us to "pray without ceaseing"! *** I appoligise for the sarcasm... I couldn't help myself, it was such a rediculous statement ***

You are such an ignorant fucker when you claim to know these things. Have you ever gone to an American public school in the past 10 years? I didn't think so.
When I was in Elementary school, I got picked on because I was the only kid who answered the question "Do you believe in God?" with the answer "No." I got harrassed by your little cult of personality that "preaches the gospels." Since I was a nerd, and basically a wimp I 'turned the other cheek' as it were. Looking back, it's funny that I was acting in a more Christian manner than the rest of the kids in my class.
I quoted the West Wing because what that character said was absolutely correct. Had there been an organized prayer at my school, I would've been beaten down constantly for not being part of the ritual.
Jay, think before you make these statements you goddamned sanctimonious idiot. When you say things like this, you remind me of the guy from TrueChristian.com waving the sign that says "Get a Brain, Morans."

Yeah, when I was in elementary school I got picked on for being scrawny. I guess we should BAN fat kids from school as NOT to create "a division" amongts children! PEOPLE are different before they go to prayer group. I think you have a chip on your shoulder. Brush it off and move on.
In college I was the only person to raise my hand when asked, "Would you kill someone for a million dollars if you were assured that you would get away with it?" My answer was no...not a single peer agreed with me. This illustrates that we are ALL different yet I didn't get " beat down " for being different.

wow this thread is still going, I haven't been here on cc for a while been a bit busy. I haven't read anything back in the last pages, I think the last time I was on was around page 50 or so, but about how kids are going to be picked on if they pray or if they refuse to pray, it all comes down to whatever the majority is in that particular school, if the maj. is christian then they will pick on the non-christians, if the maj. is non-christian then they will pick on the christians (or anyone doing anything that is not accepted by the majority) sadly it seems it is just in human nature to do such things, thats why racism and sexism and every other kind of -ism still exists today... adults learn to supress (yes I said supress, you can't tell me that some of you don't have some terribly racist grandparents, or a father who swears he drives better than the mother) such things in public but at their home you may find a completely different story kids generally pick up on this and act them out in public because what they are doing, they think is right ... because their parents said so, just as SOME christians go home and tell their family how ignorant non-believers are, SOME non-believers go home and tell their family how ignorant christians are ... and in most of these cases it manifests in the children, they go to school and pick on whatever they feel is not normal.
So far, it looks pretty much like the majority agrees that there is a God, so, why bother debating it? On "Bible Contradictions," there are 22 who believe the Bible contains contradictions or absurdities, and 21 who don't believe so. I'd say that is an extremely close vote, wouldn't you?
By the way, I haven't been posting lately because of school, so I'll be able to respond to the next set on my topic tomorrow.

You're judging that by the poll options, aren't you?
Many people choose to not say either, because they don't believe "No, I don't see him so he's not there," but have other reasons, or others could be Agnostic just like I am, and there's no option for that.
Either way though, that's not a good way to win an argument, considering jay (on your side) is the one who started this argument, meaning both sides can have things to say. You can't just say "There is a god, accept it because most people accept it." Yes, two million people CAN be wrong.

Thank god ( cause he's up there ya know) that someone else believes that, even thou we are on the opposite side of the fence of this topic we can find a some ( if little) common ground.
Regarsless of either of our beliefs lets enter a 'god free' zone if you will lets suppose any religon of any kind was never devolped, were would people be as a race? Many beleive that it was the birth of religon that lured people out of there caves and devolped the social side of people.
Lets skip a little further into history shall we? if there was no religon there would be more violence (regardless if there is any truth to the religon) Because most religons have a message of peace, there are those who do use religon as a exscuse for there crimes. I know that if there was no heaven or hell i would act a lot differantly then i do today.
Because of religion the world is a better place than it is today, wheather or not those religons have any truth to them.

Do you believe there is a God? Its a simple question where you either do or you don't. Like you are either pregnant or your not. I don't believe in God, for "even demons KNOW there is a God and tremble". Children BELIEVE in Santa, tooth ferries and easter bunnies. I KNOW there is a God.
Carry on......

Agnosticism
1. The view that the existence of any god is unknown at present.
2. The view that any god's existence is unknowable.
I'm just unsure. I think about the topic so much, that I see really reasonable arguments for both sides, and it's still debating in my head whether I should lean towards Christianity and Athiesm. Right now, it's more Athiest than Christian, but if necessary I can help argue both sides of this debate. (Going to Catholic school for 8 years has helped me get familar with the Bible.) After all, it's the best way to argue- to understand where both sides are coming from. In this topic, I've picked up an Athiest front, just because I do not approve of you trying to force Christianity on us. I believe everyone should have a right to believe whatever they want. If you truly believe the apocalypse is near, then it's good that you want to save people and all, but it's unacceptable to attempt to change someone else's opinion on something as big as this.
Personally, it really frustrates me how everyone is so one sided in this, because each side makes good points, and everyone is too arrogant to admit when they've lost a part of a debate. But, that's just me though, because I'm pretty neutral, so I suppose I can understand why people believe what they do.

Not buying it. "God has put into the heart of ALL men, the knowledge of Him"
