Sterotypes
Stereotypes must be slightly true because they had to be true for a large number of a certain group for some time for them to become well known. For example the stereotype that Asians are bad drives i find to be quite true because I live in an area of San Diego with about 85% Asian population and 9 times out of ten that someone cuts you off or runs a stop sign is, you guessed it, Asians. now I don't think it has to do with race, i think it has to do with upbringing. Many of the drivers are first generation immigrants that's families never had cars and driving is a relatively new experience and the rules of the road aren't ingrained in them since the time they were born. So my point is are stereotypes completely wrong to assume?

i think that it is mostly because their parents force them because many go through hell getting here and they want their kids to be successfulmuy_thaiguy wrote:And another on Asians (not bad mind), tend to get incredibly high grades and are in advanced classes (from what I have seen at my schools).
Not all are bad, and many are based in fact.

MOst countries don't have nearly as many people as the US. Russia has the next closest I think, while only India and China surpass us in population.strike wolf wrote:They probably don't. Most countries don't have nearly as many cars as the US.

If you consider the UU as a country, then it beats the US in terms of population.
Also, Russia's population is pretty small. 9th overall.

What's UU?
And most developing countries use bikes to get around (Such as many countries in Asia). Though I don't normally call countries like that developing, as they are normally developed just to survive.
Anyway.. Let's see some stereotypes that I just hates.
Teenage stereotypes, oh man oh man.
Racial stereotypes..
Sexual stereotypes
Age stereotypes
Hmm, all the stereotypes I normally don't like..

Bah, I meant EU.
And I agree, steriotypes in general are crap. I have yet to see any that are accurate.
Even for the driving one: How can several billion people be predominantly bad drivers? Even if they had little experience with cars when they came to the US, they would quickly learn.
I think it's more an adaptation to their surroundings. Everyone around you drives badly, so you drive badly. Being Asian has nothing to do with it.

I never study and get mainly A's or high B's
Back to the question of stereotypes good/bad, I think they are only bad when people take them seriously or rely on them for broad information on specific cultures. They can be fine if it's just a friendly joke, like blonde jokes
