Attack vs Auto attack

Post by patrakul »

Hi guys,

Is it exactly the same thing using attack and auto-attack modes?

In a more technical way, to generate random numbers a seed is needed. In attack mode, a different seed is used in each dice roll (?)
In auto attack, is the seed the same or it changes for each roll?

Tx,

when you have say 15 versus 35
it is better to attack, because then the dice rolls 3 for you and 2 for your opponent

if you auto-attack, it does not

auto attack is the devil...

30 vs. 3, sure why not auto attack? *hits button* 2 vs. 1?!?!?!?!? Never used it since, that was like 3 months ago.

I just don't like it because if you get a string of bad luck, you don't know it till your armies are gone. At least just by using regular attack you can stop it and save yourself some dignity.

Auto Attack is the devil! You will have all kinds of probability preachers and random dice . org supporters tell you it is all random.. And for the most part the dice are random!

But when you use the auto attack feature you can get stuck in a streak that lasts every roll as long as your armies last. I.E. as the previous poster explained 30 vs 3 You click auto attack next thing your lookin at is 3v3 since it stops you at 3 I think.

However had you used the attack button at 15v3 you could have realized its pretty stupid to keep going.. So I will just stop. I have never lost 6 rolls in a row using the attack button.. But I have lost tons of rolls 6 and up times when using the auto attack feature..

Stay away from it despite what people tell you =)

Yep, that's exaclty why i asked the question. It is not the first time i loose a ton of troops against 2 or 3 armies. And that never happened to me in attack mode.

If the random seed changes for each dice roll, how can it be?

Are you guys sure that the seed changes?

I don't know about random seeds and all that stuff, but my analysis is that by pushing attack each time, it allows for others to push attack in their games to take away some from a string of bad (or good) dice. If you auto attack, you get it all, good or bad.

Auto-attack is identical to pressing attack over and over again. All it does is speed things up. I use auto-attack all the time and never use attack.

AA will tend to be more 'streaky' since you're using consecutive lines of the dice roll code. When you attack normally, it's more likely you're not using consecutive lines of dice rolls since there are usually so many other people hitting "attack" at the same time. That, coupled with the fact you're more likely to stop when you get a string of bad rolls, means that a 'normal' attack seems more "fair" to most even though it is essentially the same.

Personally, I always use AA b/c I'm lazy and don't like to scroll more than I have to, and don't want to waste a lot of time taking turns.

Come on it's the same thing you only notice it in autoattack because it's easier to spot(humans are amazing at this) if I go from 30-3 and using attack get down to 15-3 I will keep attacking cause its still hugely in my favour.

auto attack has brought me great successes like killing 20 with 6 without a single loss but also big losses like 153 vs 72 ending at 3v48

I use Auto Attack in speed games. You kind of have to.

I feel your pain.

I Use autoattack most of the time. I usually don't if both of the armies are in single digits, especially if I can't afford to lose all my armies taking that one country.

Thanks for the clues guys:-)

The random die generator seems disfunctional to me, or, its results
should be more random. It just feels like a programing error and/or
misconception. Having worked with the random number generator
on an Atari-800 in Motorola 6502 machine language, there seemed
to be many pitfalls that I only later discovered in statistics class.

truely, to play well here, you must first learn the quirks of the
ramdom die generator.

sure, you can see double 6-s twice in a row, but not each and every game.
with a 3 in a row thrown in once in a while.

I am a pretty poor player at this time, but hope to improve.

will give your insights a spin....I mean a roll

Well, random.org is where all the rolls come from. I'm not sure it is possible to get much more random than that, unless you want to start tracking the movements of a gas atom under ideal conditions for randomness (common sense, why explain it?).

This is what it comes down to. Auto-attack is reckless. Compared to attack where you can stop any time, auto-attack stops when you win, or only have 3 or less armies. I've seen a good number of steaks using just attack. It just doesn't look so bad because I remember the occasional good roll, instead of being able to scroll through the thing counting all the bad. I often use auto-attack. I know I might be surprised, but it saves so much time and clicking....

I usually use auto attack, but then again i have a 91% lose rate

i have done much, much better after ditching the auto attack about 3 months ago. rarely use it anymore. they need an option where you can attack with any set amount of armies. this is especially needed in games where armies are high. for example 600 vs 500... auto-attack with 50 or 100 armies at a time. i think its on lack's to do list.

NEVER unless you nees a miracle use auto-attack, in a world 2.1 i once attacked 116 with 43. I won with 16 left. Auto attack is stupid.

its so much more fun though... luckilly i did pull off two escalating games with it this morning...in one it was the very reason I won I think....

though, on the important attacks I pecked when needed

Well, mostly I have talked of my losses involving dice in looking
for evidence.

Let us try the reverse perspective.

Every first roll of mine of every first move of every game
results in a win.

6 vs 3

after that, I need a 9 to take out a 3.

hhhhhhhmmmmmm.......

The more caustious your play, the more well behaved the dice are.

also,

much thanks for where the random rolls come from.

This will give me something to do, while I analyze how this game
treats dice rolls and then use this knowledge to its best advantage
here rather than looking for true random rolls.

and so I speculate,

computers generate binary base-2 random numbers which are then
converted int basd 10, and then recoverted back to base-6 for dice
for use in three seperate random events.

and who knows how many different processors are involved,
or programing languages.

seems like there might be room for some kinds of random errors
to creep in :)

ps...just visited random.org

I had fun....still looks strange tho, think I will have to buy some
real dice and try to compare results of stuff that makes me wonder

Lastly, tonight....lots of fun GREAT players on these boards
have made every game fun.
