Post by Unit_2 »

Mod Note:Abandoned - If resurrected, this one must be checked again.

Stamps:

We are going to stick with the old game play because we don't want it turning into Age or Magic/Might, we used tisha's background and darkened it alittle but we also keep the old back ground, there is some slite changes also.

New Background:

With Armys:

Update list for same old game play:
-Fixed the territory problem(if you still have a problem with the sizes please let me know and which ones you still think need combined)
-Shrines can no longer attack each other and now give a bonus instead.
-Changed the bonus for holding the orange and green islands.
-Changed the name "Yama." to "Yaman".

There is now 41 territorys and 8 conts.

I'd rather just have Japan.

unit you really need to start making drafts before you make threads. you get less eedback if its just an idea with no draft
What do you know about map making, bitch?

To be frank, you try to make a thread for a new idea every week (If not multiple times a week). So, until you show me something good, I'm not behind this idea.

You've been around long enough to know that threads like this don't do anything. The idea is only as good as the execution. Any idea can be good if done right. If you make threads with only ideas then you'll get nothing.

You have to show people what you're going to do. Don't worry about graphics. Get something up with territories and continents. You have to put thought into gameplay and realism. Do research and look at maps of Japan (or whatever idea it is). Maybe try to find something with separate empires/kingdoms to help you split continents. From there put the territories while thinking about gameplay (borders impassables etc...). Keep in mind that you need labels and circles inside of each territory.

Until you put in the work and keep going at an idea, you'll be known as the guy who makes threads about ideas and never puts up anything worthwhile. I'm not saying that you're not trying hard, but you have to put the effort in the right direction.

ok , here is the map(the list of things that i want/need to do is going to be below the map)

yes there is gots on it but it don't smear, so please look at the land not the sea.
Image

here is the real map:
http://www.freewebs.com/fight_knight/japanupdate.bmp

here is what you maybe asking:
1. why is there territorys with lines though them?
there is lines though them to show that they are big citys and are going to be a bonus like the Italy map.
2. how many territorys/conts. are there?
There are 5 conts. and 32 territorys.

Here is what i plan to do:
1. add names to the territory
2. make sea routes
3. maybe add-in some islands that are around japan.
4. add grafics/eye-candy(last thing)

Also, please Comment on what i need to do for the gameplay or what i need to add/take out

Hmm... my suggestions for territories are: You need the islands. there is no tsushima, no ryukyu islands (okinawa). I would say even though you forget all the minor islands, you should still add in the ryukyu islands. Also, when you're labelling the Sea of Japan, you should include the Korean name the East Sea as most western maps use as convention. the territories should be split up better. the amount of territories right now is a little small.

also i do not recommend putting any disputed islands between china, korea, and russia in the map as japanese territory to prevent any negative sentiments

Maybe you should try to make the land smaller and surround it with more blue water. :D

But seriously, what edbeard said.

I applaud the idea of a Japan map - we've got six or seven maps of China either live or in the works, why not Japan? But there's something about this map that doesn't work for me... I can't quite put my finger on what's bothering me... what could it possibly be?

actually, it's the other way around. most maps use "sea of japan", but china and korea want it changed to "east sea".

also, what is the big city between tokyo and sapporo? if you are going to use a 4th one, it should be nagoya, although it is a little close to osaka, which is also out of place.

If you want to make a map of Japan... make it interesting. I would focus on a specific time period, and the best one to try would be the sengoku period.

There are a lot of maps out there, that could give you a great feel for how this period not only shaped Japan we see today, but also was a very very interesting period in Japanese history.....

no no you misunderstood me. i meant the convention was adding both names: including the korean name the East Sea as per convention. i said including, not that East Sea was the convention

the map is way too small i can't see anything

ah, roger that.

personally i find labelling the seas on the maps in CC rather pointless, unless they are actually being used. :)

Unit_2...i have justed PMed Haydena who did have a thread for a map of Japan in the main foundry, to check that he isn't going to re-start his Japan map. I hoope for an answer very soon.
If all is OK and he is planning on returning to that map, then there is a really good start version that Haydena did in that Japan thread on about P15 that you might be able to use. :)
