the only cons I can think of happen when you want to play sports or join clubs, or when you need to take standardized tests/AP tests, where you have to go to some community center or local high school.

5. not true, u usually have to get up at seven am and start your homework at 8 am, and then keep going until three.
6. also not true, i know a lot of other home schoolers, and all of them have a WHOLE LOT of homework, and what public schoolers do in school and the homework they have to do afterward at home, the home schoolers have to do in one day from 8 am to sometimes 4 or 5 pm

 wow they have to stay up as late as 5 PM!?!?!?!

yes

5pm...thats nothing. I used to work from 6 till half 10 every day, and thats after getting home from school at 4 and leaving at half 8.

I still think home-schoolers would be less socially interactable then people in state schools, just because people in state schools talk to people from all kinds of backgrounds, and also people of different ages especially in clubs and societies.

You, Stopper, are a typical cantankerous, bitter, scottish git.

Your Bitterness is shadowed only by your envious, green-eyed resentment towards people who have simply done better in life than you have.

I cant believe you are in your 30's..etc ad nauseam

I'm trying to work out whether you're joking or not, because surely most people would not read the phrase:

I long for the day Eton is turned into a School for the Disadvantaged, Needy and Otherwise-Tugging-On-Left-Wing-Heartstrings.

as anything other than a joke, and more to the point, an excuse for a picture of hilariously outdated public school uniforms.

Speaking of which, I was going to provide some pictures of public schoolgirls' uniforms, for balance. But there is such a wealth of such pictures on the internet, I am having difficulty deciding which would be best to show on here, and may be gone for some time.

Why test scores?? Is that all we care about?? how well you can fill in some circles on a F*CKING standardized test!!!!!

Sorry, I won't go into my full rant here. . . yet.

I guess you've done badly on standardized tests?

Actually, I do pretty good on standardized tests (24 on ACT in my freshman year of high school) but I'm sickened by what the schools do with most standardized tests.

i've been on both sides of the home/public school fence and both have pros and cons.
PUBLIC SCHOOL
pros
more friends
specialized teachers,
sports,
get out of the house more often,

cons
WAY TOO MUCH EMPHASIS ON STANDARDIZED TESTS (i'll get into it later if i am not too pissed)
teachers with tenure and could care less about teaching,
power trippy VP's (aka mrs Sturgen)
students segregate themselves
paranoia that faculty have of weapons and other contraband (in schools at least)

HOME SCHOOL
pros
you can finish your work at your own pace, you arent slowed down by periods and what not or sped up if you don't understand,
more relaxed atmosphre
more free time (after you finish what would take all day in public school in 4 hrs)

cons
less friends
non specialized teachers,
no sports,
get out of the house way less,

really i think the #1 way to have a great public school system if if we let the students work at their own pace. if you can graduate High school in 8 years great don't slow them down because they need to work at the same pace as the other students. also get rid of tenure (a system where you get locked into your job after so many years of working at the school) those teachers are generally old bitter women who have nothing better to do than pick on 7th grade boys who finish their work early and correctly but don't write their name in the correct format. enough said but both have advantages and dis advantages, if we could combine the two it would be a perfect union

Just to clarify, I am also opposed to the emphasis on test scores. Especially the emphasis on math and science. Most people just don't use math beyond basic algebra and geometry in the real world. And science is equally useless for the majority of Americans. How many Americans can honestly say at work every day they think, "Thank god I can name all the parts of a cell" or "I just couldn't get through a day of work without knowing Heisenberg's uncertainty principle."

I think students should be redirected to focus on history, civics and logic/philosophy.

you say that being in public school will automatically get you more friends, I disagree, it can also get you more enemies. (Like in my case. )

i agree it can bring more enemies than friends just that being stuck at home all day with mom and your bro isn't quite the same as 2,000+ students (not that all of them will be your friends) you just have way more friends options

and here is a link to my school http://www2.sandi.net/miramesa/ nad don make fun of me because it's not an academy [-( i'm not stuck up like mm10 and his violin playing :-({|= school for frog lickers you know im kidding

Looks like a good school with a lot of options. Seems like they put a lot of effort into college prep.
