TheCLASSIC map is BROKEN! Its time to...

Post by Kinetic1 »

introduce S America to Australia!!!!!

The game is completely dependent on you getting a corner.
I accepted that as a kid, now, today its 'borken' and its up to us to fixit!

It is this reason we play live, on the table top with the 2210 board instead of classic.!!!
Lets create a classic 2.0!

I disagree. The classic map is the best. It's actually very well balanced.

You will notice that although Australia is easy to hold (with only one border) this is balanced with the fact that the only place to expand to is Asia (the largest and most difficult to hold). On the other hand South America has two borders but has opportunities to expand into North America, Africa (and one away from Europe). Australia is often a red herring in games with a lot of players. Linking SA and Oz would merely decrease the worth of SA while boosting the worth of Africa. It's effect of Oz would be negligible as this would still be the bonus with the lowest number of borders.

Unless they linked Brazil or Venezuela...

But no. Classic is fine. It has been fine for many years, it is still fine today.

Ahh good point actually.

Ive never played the OP's version - though I've seen the board for Risk II (the links through Argentina and the addition of falklands and Hawaii) and didn't like it.

Can anyone post a screenie for the other versions map?

I always felt this map and Risk II's SameTime variant each only played well together. Which would be an interesting option to bring in on this site, but sadly one that's probably copyrighted.

Copyright - smopyright. Lack's managed to get this whole website on the go with only a wee disclaimer at the bottoms saying we're not associated with Risk or Hasbro. Lets see them sue over a map!

Classic map is... well Classic. It is like an old friend and the more familiar it is, the more complex it becomes. If there are imbalances in a game it is due to the players allowing them, not the map.

I don't think there is anything wrong with the Classic map, as already stated it's well-balanced. The ease of holding Australia is countered by it's low bonus and the fact that sometimes you can be "trapped" there.

I would however like to see something like a Classic v2, with more interconnectivity (maybe similar to the Risk 2 map above) and a few more territories/opportunities, but not as big as World 2.1.

If you don't like classic, we have god knows how many other maps to play. If you really insist on playing the world, how about doodle earth? Maybe world 2.1? Or maybe you could try the other maps...

I love Classic but I would be interested in playing that map flashleg posted. I'd be even more interested in what the bonuses are...

If we get something like this, I think a horrifyingly loud "BOOOOM" should play whenever something gets nuked. And I mean play it to everybody currently on CC.

I've played this a few times and found it to be very intriguing...
But what REALLY changed the game dynamic wasn't so much the sea bases and the moon territories,
IT IS THE 5 TURN LIMIT... that's right... 5 turns...
ONE, TWO, THREE, FOUR, FIVE... GAME OVER...

5 turns! Wow. It must just be all out offense. Wouldn't go well with my no cards type style at all! Though it might be fun to try...

we play this 2210 map with classic rules and a few house rules that include the bases, nuke markers, and commanders(which roll 8sided die), no moon, no turn counter.....

Anyway, a way better map, and a definate upgrade from classic!

I own a Risk 2210 map, and I find it is great for playing on. We start out by handing out all the cards for properties on the earth, and we disregard the moon map that is used in the suggested play style. It works out great and would probably be good for 8 man games.
