Elite Escalating Strategy Game

So what do you do when you are playing with all people that are trying to get whole countries? Every time it seems that they think im the weakest cause i dont have a continent, just stacks of guys. So they attack me and cant finish and leave me hanging for someone else finish. Most esc games ive played never get more then a cash of 40ish.

How do i fix this???

Stay out of their way. Build yourself up in areas where a continent bonus would not hold, like certain countries in Asia/Europe/North America on the Classic map. No one will bother you. Position your strongest stashes so you can launch an assault if/when the occasion arises. Don't get buried in a corner somewhere.
