For one thing, I don't know who either of those people are...for another I'm pretty sure I can take care of copyright issues...I have some contacts, LOL!!
If either one of the people aforementioned would please drop me a pm or reply, that would be GREAT!!!
Oh, ps...gimil...I happen to LOVE this site and I've passed it on to pretty much ALL my friends...one is acehitchhiker, he can vouch, others would be ZDOG, Matt_707, cobat ace, or adam7max!!!
I just like to pass on good things to other people!!

The "middle earth" map works round the copyright issues and there is no agreement to use the classic risk board

gimil, If I may, I'm actually using what is known as a royalty-free image that is available on the Star Wars website, if I'm not mistaken. This means I should be able to take care of copyright issues with ease.
P.S. I noticed that there are more votes than there are different people who have replied...does this mean that people are voting, but not replying?? or is someone voting over and over??

A royalty free image sounds like a very good start. perhaps you would like to share it
as for the vote. Everyone can only vote once

some people dont bother replying, but i will......again
since its royalties-free, that takes care of the only major problem with this map, which is copyright. as for who to talk to, liek people have said, talk to andy or keyogi. hopefully they can reply soon.
but while we are waiting, could u give us a little rough draft of the map and maybe how u wnat this to be played gameplay wise? like is there something different about the gameplay for this map, is it taking place on a planet or in space? maybe which episode of star wars it takes place in?

as for the rough draft, I'm working on it
for the location, It's in space focusing on the ENTIRE star wars galaxy!!!!
I'm still working on specials, but I'm pretty sure I'll do something wierd, like fleets that can attack each other or something!!
I'm still discussing the details with andy, just about finished though...I'll let you know when I have the rough draft finished
Oh, btw, I just had a scare...I may not have a royalty free image here...I'm gonna make sure of that, I'll keep you all posted!

I am beginning to think I will have to abandon this idea...Unfortunately I am pretty sure that the image that someone told me was "royalty-free" isn't.
This really stinks...but If i find a truly royalty-free image I will start work again.
Sorry for hoping everyone!

I have looked long and hard at copyright laws and I've found that there is no copyright on mere words, if your image is original then you have no problems, since all maps made here have to be original works there is no problem, carry on with your map. (ie you can't copyright the words Star Wars or any others because they are just words) if I have misinterpreted the law somone please look it up and correct me

Protection under Trademark or Unfair Competition Laws
Some brand names, trade names, slogans, and phrases may be entitled to protection under the general rules of law relating to unfair competition, or they may be entitled to protection and registration under the provisions of state or federal trademark laws. The federal trademark statute covers trademarks and service marks—those words, phrases, symbols, or designs that identify the source of the goods or services of one party and distinguish them from those of others. The Copyright Office has no role in these matters.
brand names could also be patented

I don't think I can do the map at all...the image passed off to me as royalty-free is actually copyrighted by Lucasfilm and/or Bantam Books.
I think this map is all-around toast...too bad. We could have used a Star Wars map to complete the collection.
btw, the name Star Wars IS copyrighted as a brand name under LucasFilm. The name cannot be used to NAME anything without owner permission. This does not mean the name cannot be USED without permission, just used on items that are for profit or may jeopardize the reputation of the owner.
Sorry guys, but it doesn't look like it's happening anytime soon.

Standard reply from Lucas arts bothers you ?
Copyrights are so easy to bypass.
It's not as solid as patent rights (and even those are fairly easy to work around..if you have a clever attorney).
Anyway..take whatever image you intended to use...copy it and put a layer over it and DRAW it WITH YOUR HAND as good as you can (but not perfectly
).
Leave some stuff out...add some stuff in. Change names .. and voila you made your own creation.
..
Then be sure that you don't generate income or money with it.
Which is clear for you..but with Conquer club ..this may be harder to prove.
However, if they have dealt with this thang before ..they should now that it is VERY difficult for Lucasarts to prove to the judge that whatever you have created is breadstealing Lucasarts.
Much harder to prove that your Solar System Battles map has generated a special type of player that specifically paid membershipfees to CC to specifically play this map.
No topshot lawyer will be able to bend this in Lucasart's favour.
Just do it (..oops that is Nike copyrighted...do I have to pay a fine now ???).
