Sugesstion: Game Merging

Post by hitogoroshi »

Hit Join a Game. Not Game Finder, just Join a Game. What do you see? Lemme guess: A bunch of "games in a box", a horde of triples mode games with *gasp* three people!! While other teams of three can join as well, I'd like a feature where if there are two triples games (or three doubles games) each with exactly one team and with the exact same map/settings they just join each other. You could turn this off if you had a reason (make it the negative sense: you have to check the box to NOT merge.) but this would greatly reduce the number of triples games I see who probably have the perfect strategy down pat and who I don't want to waste my time losing to.

There is a reason why high ranked people play triples games. Your merge idea would defeat the object of them.

regardlessly i still want to know why high ranked people play triples games. I could care less about the merge idea.

While I like the idea, I think using the game finder is just as easy. The hard part is what happens when people start joining the games. The only time a merge would work is if every setting and player is exactly the same.

Now other triples teams wouldn't be able to coordinate join times on a game. You wouldn't be able to get a good game number out of merged games unless you displayed all the game numbers.

Having 3 people with a coordinated plan will normally beat out 3 strangers who happened to join the same game. When you add the skill level most of those trips players have, it basically becomes a lock.

Thats why I made the suggestion. If people want to make a co-ordinated team in triples, it's only fair they fight one. ;) That way people who just want to snipe newbies can turn merge off and everyone will know they just want to prey on strangers. :p

Everyone knows that already except the newbies who wouldn't understand the implications of merge game being off. Those who've been around the block a few times know better than to join those games unless they've got partners of their own.

I do not like this idea at all, I don't even play trips but it sounds terrible and hard to implement.

I think its a good idea. In fact I think we should do something to discourage the high ranks from using that triples game strategy. Probably half the games they play have one deadbeat, since only noobs join the triples games without a team. I don't even know what fun they get out of this. Clearly its just to farm points so they can get up on the top ranks board.
And really, what is more discouraging to new players than playing their first game against 3 high ranked players who know how to work as a team, the new players all get their asses kicked.
Thats potential premium subscribers who might be quiting CC ;)

Why not merge team games that have the exact same set up after a given time period... 24 hours, 48 hours, 72 hours... whatever. After that time is up, the game will be eligible for merge, and merges will only happen if the games are exactly the same (number of players, map, game type, play order, bonus cards and fortifications) and do not share any players.

I think this is a decent idea. Especially the point about scaring off noobs.
