How do cards work?

I'm a newbie and have not quite figured out the cards. I understand the cashing them in but not how to get them.
The "How to play" tells me that at the end of each turn I recieve a card if I conquered a country in that turn. It seems to me that that is what I get; one card at the end of a turn. It doesn't seem to matter how many countries that I conquer I only get one card.
Is this correct?
I just got my -BLEEP- handed to me on a platter in game #9075. I was surprised by the number of armies the winner suddenly had. I scrolled through the game play and saw that in his final turn he handed in five sets of cards. (fifteen cards) That's a lot of armies.
I then scanned back up to the beginning of the game and counted the cards that had been awarded to the player throughout the game. Five.
It doesn't add up to me. I must be missing something. Someone please fill me in on how I can gain more cards.

Make that six. I went back to look again and see if I could figure it out. he recieved six by my count.
The only way it makes sense to me is if when it says "recieves a card" there can be more than one card given.

Ok....scanning other games it seems that when you eliminate another player you get bonus cards.

Is this right? The way to get more cards is to crush without mercy and be the one to eliminate another player from the face of the earth?

It would explain why there were so many cards cashed in at the end of #9075

If you do get bonus cards for eliminating players how many do you get? Or do you get the cards that they held when they died?

yes when u kill anouther player u get the cards hes holding.. if u have five in your hand at that time u can cash in in the middle of the turn.... as for getting them u only get one a turn no matter how many countrys u take
