On 7/7/07 I did a game finder search for public, active games for each map.
This list shows each map and how many pages of active games. Its a measure of popularity. I didn't check how many games were on each page (specifically the last) so its a crude measure to be sure.

47 Pages
Classic

16 Pages
World 2.1

5 Pages
Age of Merchants
British Isles

4 Pages
BeNeLux
Middle Earth
Siege!

3 Pages
Battle For Australia
Cairns Coral Coast
Caribbean Islands
Europe
Great Lakes
Mongol Empire
San Francisco
USA

2 Pages
Africa
Alexander's Empire
Ancient Greece
Arctic
Asia
Australia
Canada
CCU
Chinese Checkers
Circus Maximus
Germany
King of the Mountains
Middle East
Philippines
Tamriel
U.S. Senate
8 Thoughts

1 Page
Brazil
Crossword
Discworld
Hong Kong
Indochina
Ireland
Montreal
North America
Space
USApocalypse

Someone did one of these lists in April 06 (i think)

Someone should revamp the classic map. Keep the same look and feel but fix up the uglies. Chief among them is that the army circles are over the names.

I'm working on the Solar System Map now but if no one is doing it by the time I'm finished i might take a crack at it.

I tried to do a revamp of Classic (still need permision). I wanted to post it here first though, because im not sure if anyone will like it. I still need to do attack lines, names, and army circles. I will not at all be offended if everyone thinks that it really sucks.

Let me be the first one not to offend you.

That map sucks. Big time. It's horrible.

It's strong words, I know. And my appologies. But really. The classic map is great. Very clear, very nice and soft graphics. Your idea not only destroys the great design, it would give players epileptic attacks... Forget about it. Please. Don't go there.

I think Classic, Asia and the USA maps will likely not be revamped by members of the community. Lack is going to discuss some changes to these maps with the original creator.

You're my hero. Canada would probably be one of my favorite maps if I could stand to look at it.

Classic Map

Post by jpk1789 »

I was glad to hear that some of you were suggesting a revamp of the Classic Map. Although it is already a good map, it could be made into a great map. And why not, since it is the most played gameboard of all.

Honestly, something as simple as reducing the darkness of the overall map could make a big difference (and would take all of 3 minutes). Either that, or making the circles (army shadows) lighter would work. Currently, it's sometimes not easy to see who's who on the gameboard.

My thoughts exactly. the graphic design is great and doesn't require meddling. It's just hard to see some of the numbers in the army circles and the army circles are over the names.

How did you happen to choose that list? Some of the maps on there are among my personal favorites for visual attractiveness.

I have to say, even though I did make a selection, I really don't feel that someone who would pick most of that particular group as requiring revision should be the one doing said revisions. Ireland, for example, is a work of art.

Am I the only one who thinks Germany or Indochina could stand to use a graphics overhaul?

No you are not, and Oh Shit! It's Dr. Tran!!!

Anyway, Indochina is hard to revamp because the average narrow minded idiot that takes it up wants to change its game play, as we saw last time someone tired to revamp that and I'm so happy that didn't work out.

I would be very open to an Indochina revamp that didn't mess with the gameplay.
