Trump drops tariffs on beef, coffee, tropical fruit as pressure rises over consumer prices

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump signed an executive order Friday to get rid of tariffs on a broad swath of commodities, including beef, coffee and tropical fruits. It’s part of a response to pressure from consumers who complain prices are too high.

The move comes after voters in off-year elections earlier this month cited economic concerns as their top issue, resulting in big wins for Democrats in races in Virginia and New Jersey.

The president signed the executive order after announcing that the U.S. had reached framework agreements with Ecuador, Guatemala, El Salvador and Argentina designed to ease import levies on agricultural products produced in those countries. Trump suggested earlier this week that he’d be lowering tariffs on coffee to help increase its importation.

Trump and his administration have been long insisted that tariffs don’t increase consumer prices. Some of the products covered in the new executive order aren’t produced in the United States.

But record-high beef prices have been a particular concern, and Trump has said he intended to take action to try to lower them. Trump’s tariffs on Brazil, a major beef exporter, have been a factor.

Trump's claims about the meal being cheaper are true. However, the company's 2025 meal is smaller than its 2024 offering. This year, Walmart is selling what it describes as "a full holiday feast serving 10 people for under $4.00 per person," which they noted is "the lowest price since Walmart started the program."

The outlet alAccording to NBC, this year's meal features 23 items, down six from last year. Customers purchasing Walmart's 2025 Thanksgiving meal will not receive onions, celery, sweet potatoes, chicken broth, poultry seasoning, muffin mix, marshmallows, whipped topping or pecan pie.
so reported that the 2025 meal includes just one can of cream of mushroom soup, while last year's included two.

Additionally, Walmart's current Thanksgiving meal has standard dinner rolls and fresh cranberries, products that are both cheaper at Walmart than the sweet Hawaiian rolls and cranberry sauce the company featured in its 2024 meal.

Trump's claim that grocery prices have dramatically fallen during his presidency is unsupported by his own administration's data.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics' Consumer Price Index — which most recently captured inflation data for the month of September 2025 — showed that overall food costs rose 3.1% year over year, and grocery prices in particular rose 2.7%. Prices have steadily trended upward since Trump took office in January.

Trump is a Politician who was (and still is, basically) a salesman. Such people are prone to put their products in the BEST possible light, truth be damned.

NO surprise here, not for me. And yes, the stats cited by Trump must be looked at in this LIGHT and not only in his light through ONLY his lenses. This is refraction (the BENDING of Light, and possibly the TRUTH) and NOT pure unaltered and not unalterated light.

Since many are traveling somewhere to be with Family and Loved Ones for Thanksgiving, I think it appropriate to share this story.

There was a delay at an airport and a woman on that delayed flight was trying to "Stir things UP" trying to get others to complain. When she got to one person, he said that if this is 1870, my trip from St. Louis to Portland, Oregon would require that I walk (or ride in a covered wagon pulled by draft animals) for at least 3 months, cross streams and mountains, and deal with raids by Native Americans ("Injuns"). And, oh, half my family would like DIE on that journey. So, in comparison, this 20 minutes delay is NOT a Big Deal. (And I do NOT need pills/drugs/Ozymbec to make sure I get there. AND I do hope my Mom can make chicken soup for dinner tonight.)
