Congrats to Juke and theelkspeaks for being the first to win matches. The rest of the series' are too early to call. As soon as we get a round 2 matchup solidified I will generate the round 2 maps line-up.

An update on the first round: there's a couple series that are getting close to declaring a winner.

There are a couple others that are going at a snail's pace. I was thinking originally each match would take about 10 days to finish but maybe that was too optimistic.

Would it be too much to ask certain participants to take more turns? It would be nice if the tournament didn't take 5-6 months to complete.

I feel called out, hehe.
I have had a huge gameload, and not had time to take more then 1 turn a day, but I will try to at least take 2-3 a day now.
I hope thats ok?

2 turns a day would be great. Your match isn't even the slowest. Don't mean to rush anyone but it'd be good to keep it moving along.

I secured my R1 win vs j1mathman, will be wrapped up in next 24 hours.

juke also advanced from that side of bracket, we may start quarterfinals if ready.

Congrats on advancing.

Earlier today juke requested that his next round start April 2 because of a personal event in his life. I chose to accommodate his request because he is one of the faster turn-takers and I don't think a delay in that series will slow the tournament as a whole. I hope that's ok.

The 2nd round map pool has been generated (see 2nd post of thread) and I'll be sending out the invites to the first lower bracket participants.

Good luck to all. I expect someone will make an epic run in the lower bracket.

Kingm has knocked me down with a 4-0 start in our round 1 matchup!

I'll see him in the finals though ;)

Congrats to Kingm for advancing in the upper bracket.

Bracket updated on post 2.

The remaining matches are getting closer to a finish.

One thing I'm monitoring is YouOnKazoo has missed some turns yesterday. If he misses too many, I might just disqualify him. Arbitrary, I know, but it's my tournament and I'm the one forking cash over to the winner.

Congrats to chanakam2020 and j1mathman for advancing in their respective matches.

Disqualifying YouOnKazoo from 2nd round for multiple missed turns (160 active games might be too much for you pal).

I would like some feedback on what to do with Swimmerdude99's 2nd round match. He could get an automatic bye, or we could try to find a replacement. I want to be fair to both Swimmerdude99 and the rest of the field.

Lord Arioch and Kevi are in a very tight match where it looks like it will come down to Arctic. aaronvollrath and pranburi are similarly in a close one with Coral Coast and Arctic still in play.

Within 12 hours game invites will be sent for the Kingm/chanakam2020 Upper Bracket match. In about 36 hours (per juke's request) game invites will be sent for the josko.ri/juke Upper Bracket match.

Especially being in R1 of lower bracket, Swimmer has a long way to go and I see zero unfairness in him getting a "bye" because his would-be oppo deadbeated out before the game started.

I agree; that's the way I was leaning and with the absence of other opinions that's how we'll go.

Congrats to aaronvollrath for advancing in the upper bracket.

Lord Arioch/Kevi still isn't decided but we should see a finish in the next couple days.

Invites sent out for the aaronvollrath/theelkspeaks and pranburi/DanaiPappa matches.

I know youonkazoo from many tournaments and i dont recall that he was deadbeater. maybe he had some difficult days and did not manage to play turns. I recommend to give him the chance to play and, in the worst case, he will deadbeat which is literally the same as giving Swimmerdude bye.

Your appeal to mercy moved me, and as a result I was going to give youonkazoo a chance...however, I looked at his game history, and I only had to look through 6 of his games to find that he missed a turn on this very day, April 7. There is no way he is going to defeat a skilled opponent like Swimmerdude with missed turns. Worse yet, he tends to take 1 turn/24 hours (when he bothers at all). His poly 4 game with chanakam is still only in round 5 after 3 weeks! Moreover, he is still actively joining games and game load is actually increasing.

Not sure about youonkazoo, but I can see that he missed only one turn vs chanakam in 13 rounds of st Laurent poly-2 map. It sounded to me that he is extensively missing but i dont see the data to Support it

Re: Classic-Style Polymorphic Slugfest (April 12 update)

Why do I get the feeling that josko just likes to argue lol.

coral coast – 2 missed turns
golf-1 missed turn
USA – 2 missed turns
great lakes- 2
mongola -1
arctic -3
france -2

So he's missed turns in every map of the matchup. He hasn't missed any turns in 6 days with chanakam2020, however in his other games he is still missing turns. On the 2nd random game of his that I looked at, he missed a turn on 4/11, so two days ago.

So to put this issue to bed I propose the following: I'll let YouOnKazoo compete with Swimmerdude in a special 2nd round match (all 7 games being randomly selected poly 2 maps, to get the match over with quicker on account of the late start) on one of two conditions.

Either josko co-sponsors the tournament by pledging a minimum of 1 month premium to the overall tourney winner, or at least one other participant post in support of YouOnKazoo.

Current status is two people support the bye (including the only sponsor), and one supports advancing YouOnKazoo.

We've had 11 days to figure this out and haven't gotten much feedback, so if one of these 2 conditions is not met in the next 48 hours, I'll consider the issue closed.

I wasn't weighing in on explicitly supporting the bye (as opposed to letting Kazoo play it out); I was only supporting the bye relative to bringing in a replacement and saying I didn't think a replacement was needed if you were going to FF Kazoo. I'd be willing to take the chance on whether he plays his turns or not if he still wants to play them

For the record I'm happy regardless, all dubs is fine with me as long as they aren't targeted at super small maps as that introduce more randomness than I want. Particularly vs a low score opponent who would sap points going 2-5 even.

Fair enough, apologies for putting words in your mouth. Maybe I was too eager to latch onto support.

What do you think constitutes as a super small map for dubs? I ask because I'll refine my map pool for future tournaments. The dubs maps I have range from 24 territories to 56 territories with the average being around 40. I purposely avoid any map that start players off with less than 6 territories so it's not "too" easy to eliminate right away with good dice.

Your original list is good with me. Just didn't want to end up with something smaller or hand picked small to move things along. Your list in OP is perfect (other than Madagascar :P why does it just feel like doodle earth 2.0?)

April 16 Update

It's been 4 days so wanted to do a quick update.

There are 4 ongoing matches.
pranburi/danaipappa will probably finish in 2-3 days.
chanakam2020/kingm more like 3-5 days.
prismsaber/lord arioch 3-5 days.
j1mathman/theelkspeaks probably 7+ days.

Good luck to all.
